Hopefully, on the DVD, they will have King Of Broadway. If so, I will take the KOB & put it on VHS & go back & forth so somehow I can get it back in the film the way it should be & put the whole shebang on a DVD when all is said & done. The deletion of this has to be one of the mystifying cuts in a musical to movie transformation
SamIAm - apparently you haven't read the entire thread. Also - Beach won't get a nod for Supporting. BRODERICK will (if it happens). BRODERICK is being pushed for Supporting, and then Beach, Ferrell, and Bart.
Out of all actors, Thurman has the best chance for an Oscar nod.
As for Golden Globe nods, true, it is a predictor for Oscars. However, it is voted upon by the Hollywood FOREIGN Press. Other countries are not liking the Hitler thing too much. Therefore, they may shun it. However, the Acadmey (made up of US members) may dig it. So just because it's not looking too good the Golden Globes doesn't mean the Oscars won't happen.
Even still, in the end, Oscar chances are slim - unless it picks up quick and high steam after its release.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I just want to say here on this thread that all people who don't like musicals simply don't possess a level or intelligence equal to those who do. This is a blanket statement, true, but if you consider that most theater fans are EDUCATED people, and generally speaking only those with more money (and therefore the intelligence to make the money) go to the theater regularly, my point is at least semi-proven. Most of America is not all that smart. Musicals come along and most people don't GET them. Just because you and I associate with more intelligent people who can appreciate theater and the arts for what it is, doesn't mean that most of America can. I was frankly amazed that Chicago won the award for best movie. I have little hope for The Producers or Rent to do the same.
The reason that Chicago won Best Picture was because it was a good MOVIE in addition to being a good show. You can't say the same thing about the film versions of Rent and The Producers. They were both good shows, but they are mediocre (at best) movies.
I have to chime in about the IQ levels of some people when it comes to movie musicals. It's shouldn't be that hard to suspend reality for people that do it all the time for your average silly action or sci-fi flicks. I had to threaten my son-in-law with never being able to set foot in my house again before he finally took my daughter to see RENT. He thought it was cheesy. I already can't stand the boy and he's good and cooked now...and obviously not too bright.
People have a problem with people singing in movie musicals like RENT and The Producers but have no problem with animals talking in The Chronicles of Narnia?
"Smart! And into all those exotic mystiques -- The Kama Sutra and Chinese techniques. I hear she knows more than seventy-five. Call me tomorrow if you're still alive!"
CapnHook: I DID read the entire thread. My comments about the possible award nominations are based on what UNIVERSAL has stated they are promoting and the decisions THEY have made. As of this writing, Universal still does not list Broderick for consideration on their website.
