So...there is always one or two big surprises! Actually, this year has a few more "anyone's guess" categories than most. That being said, what are your upset predictions? Not who you WANT to win, but who you really think could surprise us all.
Going out on a limb here:
Sean Hayes for Best Actor/Musical
Marica Milgrom Dodge for Best Director/Musical
I think La Cage is the biggest lock of the night (behind Viols Davis), and could see voters going another way on director.
I think Montego will win and I also think Maxwell will beat Davis for the Best Actress award.
Sad it's considered an upset, but anything BUT La Cage for revival.
I'd really love to see Hayes take Best Actor.
Also, either Hecht or Johansson taking Featured Actress in a Play.
I really think Steggert's gonna take Featured Actor
While I would love to see Ragtime take all their nominated awards, especially Dodge's direction, I can see Steggert taking Supporting Actor more than any other. I truly hope this is a night of upsets.
Personally, I'd love to see Sherie take Actress over CZJ and Glover, and Ragtime take direction over LaCage.
I forgot to mention I would love to see Fela! beat Memphis for Best Musical. Especially since Memphis seems to be the clear frontrunner now.
That and Ngaujah or Hayes beating Hodge would make my night.
If critics still had a vote, FELA would likely be the one to beat.
Agreed.
If I could pick one upset of the night though, I think it would be NEXT FALL for Best Play. And then FELA! for Best Musical.
Scarlett Johansson for Featured Actress in a Play...fingers crossed.
I'd also really like to see Liev take Actor in a Play. Denzel was good, but Liev was unbelievable.

Kelsey Grammer beating Hodge.
At this point, I don't really care as long as Hodge doesn't win.
AC, couldn't agree with you more. I'd love for Liev Schreiber to win again.

Seconded.

I think the biggest surprise will be if people actually watch them this year!!!
FELA! for Best Musical and anybody but Twyla winning for Best Choreography (that's a stretch).
MusicalComedyMan, your comment is funny because it's true. The only people who give anything more than a shrug to the Tony Awards are BBW posters, those involved with the actual productions and the winners' mothers.
That said, I'm excited to yet again live vicariously through this year's winners.

I still have a tiny twinge of hope that Sherie can win, but I know in my heart that it's not true.
i think its going to be a year full of upsets!
Fela! - Musical, Montego - actress, Plantadit - featured actress, Next Fall -play, Sahr- actor,

I predict at least six different threads devoted to how upset a poster is when someone they wanted to win loses.
I predict at least two people will post threads with a winner in the title which leads me to predict
At least four people will flip out because they are upset with the people who started the spoiler threads because they are on the west coast or because they are watching via tivo.
