"It is ghoulish to speculate on this just as it was beating a dead horse like Lestat"
Mr. Roxie, in Lestat's case, don't you mean a dead wolf?

"You guys are such vultures...You are circling the corpse while it hasn't even had a chance to breathe."
Now that was classic.

Great post Margo. I'd like to add that the show also helped many young gay men embrace (accept?) their sexuality. Paul's character was something we could relate to. I don't think a high profile musical had dealt with the topic so honestly and openly before.
I'm very excited about the revival and I hope everyone who loves theatre makes it a priority to witness it. It's a milestone in the history of the American musical and this production appears to be in very capable hands.

I do say Margo does bring it all together.
I will also say that, although a majority of us are very excited for ACL's return - especially those of us who have never seen a production of it before - I'm sure just about every major show to come down the pike has it's detractors. And just about every major show that's come out in the past couple of years has had a "well how long is THIS gonna last?" thread here or elsewhere, and it's certainly a valid question. Should it have been phrased as this one was? Probably not. But I'm sure no one reacted quite as strongly when the question was asked about In My Life or Good Vibrations or Jersey Boys or Wedding Singer or the Gypsy or Into The Woods revivals. Some of those have become beloved, some have not. And some of those were surely dismissed early that are now loved by many of those same people.
The question of relevance and value on the current Broadway scene is a good one for any production, and one that deserves to be asked. Again, not quite in the manner that the original poster asked, but why not ask the question? Isn't that what these boards are for?
