Just curious what others do. When I invite guests to the theater and buy their tickets, I keep the tickets, hand all to the usher and indicate my guest(s). It's not until we're in our seats and have gotten settled that I hand the ticket(s) out.

Everytime I'm invited though my friends hand me my ticket before entering the theater. One even has a habit of emailing me my e-ticket and asks me to print before.

It's a little thing and yes there are more important issues we should be dealing with. LOL But I'm just curious what others do. I feel it eases the entry process where the usher just needs to deal with one hand-off instead of two or more, and explain the same directions to everyone in the same party. I also take responsibility for my guests and am honored to be host for the night.

This is going to be an interesting thread.

- If I have the tickets in hand, I give them their ticket in the lobby (as do my friends if they have the tickets). Ticket-takers are always shouting "hold your own ticket," so that's what I do.
- If they're print at home, I print them both but send them to my friend and suggest they print, too, in case one of us runs late, loses them on the train, etc.

OP's preferences would make me feel a bit like I was being treated like a child (I can keep track of my own ticket, thank you!), but if we're talking about people who never really see shows, chaperoning them a bit is indeed helpful.

It's funny: the ticket takers want everyone to hold their own ticket, but the ushers prefer that one person hold them.

I "host" 50 kids every year. Each one gets their ticket.

When I go with a personal group, I hold on to them....but only because it's easier. For those shouting about having their own ticket...I dont think I've heard that in YEARS. I do, however, fan the tix to make it easier for that usher.

If I'm going with friends who physically have the tix, I dont care who has the tix. The show and the company are the only thing that matters.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

If we agree and plan on what show we’re seeing, we each pay our own show ticket and transportation.

If I pick the show and invite someone, I buy both tickets but not the transportation.

I normally buy the tickets with my card so I get them in the mail. I’ve been printing because saving $4 each time we go adds up. I’ll hold onto the tickets until we get to the theatre. If we’re late, then I’ll get both tickets scanned but otherwise, I give out the tickets and everyone can scan their own.

I usually organize a group of my fraternity brothers every so often to go see a show. I usually buy the tickets on my card and collect the money, but when the tickets arrive, I mail them out separately and therefore they are responsible for their own ticket in case they cannot go

If I have the physical tickets, I hand my friend theirs before we walk in. Sometimes I like to go to the restroom before going to my seat and they don't or vice versa, so that makes it easier to split up.

I also think I agree with veronicamae, if I was OPs friend I'd probably feel like they think I'm a child who can't keep track of my own ticket, even when that's not the intention.

I like to keep the tickets until we are seated. If I give them out earlier, invariably one friend will misplace it temporarily and go into a panic searching pockets and bags trying to locate it! It never fails.

If we'll be joining people at the theater or for drinks beforehand, I always send them the PDFs of the tickets in case one of us is delayed. I also print out their tickets as a backup in case they forget them.

In front of the theater, I give everyone their tickets (or check that they have theirs in hand).

Before scanners, I'd hold all the tickets, but since each ticket is scanned now, it's easier for everyone to have their own ticket. (And yes, when being seated, it's easier for the usher if the lead person has all the tickets to see the seat range, but knowing the size of the party and a seat in the sequence is fine).

This is for paper tickets (which we prefer) - I haven't used electronic tickets often enough to formulate a strategy.

Every show I go to the ticket takers are always saying to have your own ticket. It's not as much now since they have mobile tickets for most shows. You obviously can't hand anyone a ticket then. The ushers always grab all of them if people are in a group.

99% of the time I go to a show by myself though.
