Just got the official word - it's closing this Sunday November 9th. Those of you with tickets for next week should try to switch them if you can.

Can't believe it. I'm in a class that has group tickets to see this on Sunday and, by sheer coincidence, that is going to be closing night. We've had them for three weeks! I've never been to a closing before - this will be interesting.

Apparently, this was a legitimate lie to the public, unlike XANADU. The cast was told the show would close the 9th, the public was told it would close the 16th.

just bought my tickets 10 minutes before the official announcement! Can't believe there's only four performances left! You don't think they'd cancel any more performances, do you?

It's a crime to not give those folks an extra week onstage. Shame, shame, shame. Here's to rosey, red dsys ahead, cast, crew, etc. Thanks for the memories TALE! Wish I could be there Sunday. To any and all attending, have a bloody good time!

You know, I've now read all posts, and only found about 4 who were negative (they posted more than once, but only about 4-5 posters). Face it downers, probably 99% of the audience members who were lucky enough to experience a performance of Tale LOVED it. Just look at how many more people have come out to say it is a shame that it is closing (me included).
Economy and others hidden factors were probably to blame, not the quality of what was onstage. It is TRULY a shame that this has come to pass. Really.
BTW, there is a huge fan base in Sarasota for this show as well, do not forget.

There's only a couple of hundred on here and just a few saying how wonderful they think it is but there are many, many thousands out there who decided not to see it because it's not worth their hard earned money! So your little rant here speaks for nothing! The producers listen to the public not a few crazed fans on here! The real world is a bit different to yours obviously!

You're wrong Mama. The producers made a painful but necessary decision to stop the bleeding in an economic situation that's only getting worse. If they'd listened to the people, that is the vast majority of the audiences who have seen the show and loved it, they would have used the money their investors offered them (more people who continue to love the show) and kept running the show, even at a loss, to continue building word, which was great. They were on the verge of resuming their advertising and marketing toward this end. Then the greedy theater owners pulled the plug. Told them we're kicking you out for Hair in January no matter what your sales do. That's the bottom line. This show was never going to be given a chance to succeed. Interestingly, now the crew is starting to talk and reveal that they knew all along what the theater's plan was. "This was strictly a load-in, load-out show" was what one of them said last night. Go back and google Reidel's column in August where he mentions that "Hair" was eyeing the Hirschfeld since the "biz" was badmouthing "Tale", which hadn't opened yet, "into an early grave."

The truth is that even with terrible reviews, no money for advertising the last month and no Broadway "family" behind it, this show was still selling more tickets on a weekly basis than a dozen other "hit" and "critically acclaimed" shows. Take a look at the numbers on this very page. More tickets were sold to "Tale" than for "Spring Awakening", "Avenue Q", "Thirteen", "August Osage County", "39 Steps", "Boeing, Boeing", "Speed the Plow", etc.. And before things really went south, they even beat "Chicago", "Grease", "Hairspray" and "Spamalot" one week. So the People were still choosing this show over many others, even with all the odds against it and the economy tanking. In the end, it was the high weekly running costs of this show that made it impossible to hold its head above water in this environment.

You have hated the show from the beginning and have made no attempt to conceal your contempt, ill wishes and schadenfreude at its demise. You are obviously a very troubled, bitter person. It will annoy you no end when this show resurrects itself and continues to have a life beyond Broadway, which it will. See you then.
