So I went to Mockingbird tonight, and then ran over to see Freestyle Love Supreme afterwards. I also went to the matinee of Halfway B!tches earlier. That got out at 5, & as I walked up 9th towards 44th, I stopped at Chelsea Square diner to get some food - which turned out to be one of the better diners I have stumbled across. Tickets to both TKAM & FLS were at will call, so I picked up the one for the later show first to make sure entry for that would go smoothly.
I purchased a seat in the balcony for Mockingbird after reading that the view might be better than in the mezzanine & it turned out fine. There was a really lovely, fun lady ushering up there. Unfortunately, there was one of those dreaded little slips of paper in the Playbill, & Taylor Trensch ended up being out tonight. His understudy was fine. It was interesting how this was turned into a play & how different it is from the famous film. My father has two favorite movies, Bullit and TKAM, so I grew up on Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch. Last x-mas when I came to NY I passed on seeing this because I could only see Jeff Daniels as the guy from Dumb & Dumber. For me Ed Harris seems like someone with more gravitas. In early scenes I at first wasn't sold on his take, but by plays end I really enjoyed his performance. I can't compare the new cast with the last, but I thought they were all fine. I really liked Dakin Matthews performance as the Judge. It is an interesting & different take on the material, but for me the film remains the superior adaptation of the novel.
I was worried about being late for the next show, & as I had an aisle seat I quickly exited as the bows started. Before the show started I purchased the fridge magnet, but passed on the program as it was all pictures of the original cast. Thanks to those above in the thread who gave advice. It was a good day due to much planning, but I can NOT recommend doing a 3 show day! If my body wasn't still 3 hours behind on West Coast time I think I would be even more tired than I am.
