Plain Jane fat ass is cut, as well as Sister Chantelle and her songs. It seems to me like Stafford has (like he did with CARRIE) done away with all the comedy aspects of the show and gone with a more dramatic version.
IMO I think the show was fine the way it was when i saw it in NYC years ago...

Posted: 8/24/12 at 11:20amThey really cut Warning? That is the song that drew me to the show in the first place. I'm glad I have all of the previously released (and unreleased) recordings, because i have doubts about this production.

Posted: 8/24/12 at 11:33amI just realized that this means "See Me" is gone also! Does anyone else think this was part of the heart of the show?

Posted: 8/24/12 at 11:53amDefinitely the heart of the show. Unless the reviews are amazing, I have lost interest in seeing this. Those two songs were what made the show compelling.

Posted: 8/24/12 at 1:31pmThe loss of Claire (and by extension See Me and Warning) really made me lose faith in this production. Claire gave adults attending the show a chance to connect with what was going on, and See Me was the song that really brought me into the show. I also don't like that the kids are no longer seniors. Like Jimmycurry said, unless the reviews are good I'll be skipping this one. The show, in my opinion, didn't really need much revision. I feel like some of the changes were made just for the sake of changing it.

I won't say it didn't need ANY revision -- as EVERY single teen angst issue was there, thus weakening it's purpose. (IMHO)
However, I think taking Claire out takes away quite a bit of the reality. I will miss her, greatly.
I didn't care much for Sr. Chantelle -- I found her character to be nothing but a caracature.(
I am less intrigued by the changes I've heard about, but my now 15 dd recently discovered the music and deserately wants to go, so I'll definitely give it a chance.

"I didn't care much for Sr. Chantelle -- I found her character to be nothing but a caracature. [sic]"
And the rest of the show didn't remind you of a musical episode of Dawson's Creek?

Posted: 8/24/12 at 2:30pmYes, but I found her character to be the most offensive in that way. (Which goes along with my statement about the overdose of teen angst issues.)

Sr Chantelle was def a stereotype, but she brought humor to the piece. Seems like they are going more Dawson Creek than ever.
Oh Stafford, my friend, WHY? WHY?
The show worked before.

I don't think anyone thought those were the costumes unless the play now takes place at a BoyGeorge themed rooftop mash-up.
"And bring your Gucci bags".
Some semblence of Catholic school would have been more appropriate and more sexy.

I really still can't get over the cutting of Claire.
I love this show, but will freely admit it has it's fair share of problems, and certain aspects begged to be tweaked and reworked, Claire and her two songs are not those sections.
I'm interested to see how this effects the characterization of Peter..

Posted: 8/26/12 at 1:32pmAre they still going to be putting on Romeo & Juliet or is it being modernized to be High School Musical instead?

I'm not going to slam the production, but I will most certainly slam the photo shoot.
This photo shoot says nothing about the musical, other than young people are involved.
Did they not have a stylist? If they did, what were they thinking? Considering that the fact it's a Catholic school plays heavily into the play, you'd think the shoot would reflect that. As of now, this looks like American Idiot: Student Edition.

Posted: 8/26/12 at 3:36pmThis thread has made me really upset about this production. I am flying up from Mississippi to see this show. A friend and I have been waiting for years for this to resurface... Claire and Sister Chontelle getting cut from the show is killer, mainly Claire because "See Me" was one of my top songs in this show. We will see what happens with this production... Needless to say I'm nervous this will be a watered down production with all of the heart ripped out.
