re: The 'Promises, Promises' Poster is GREAT.

It's good. I'm not crazy about it, but I like it. I just don't get why they can make Kristin look younger, yet Sean Hayes has never looked older. It's like he looks overly airbrushed and not airbrushed enough all at the same time. If you're going to give a photo the "carved out of cream cheese" treatment, I think they could have committed a little more.

Good style, though. I think they could have pushed it further, but I have such low standards for Broadway graphic design that nitpicking something good feels wrong.

Even the original 1960s graphics had very little to do with the actual content of the show, as Smaxie just pointed out so well.

Are you trying to tell me the show is not about Batgirl holding a giant key?

peerrjb, I heard recently that Katie Finnernan is playing Marge MacDougall (the role for which Marian Mercer won a Tony in the original production.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Does anyone know when tickets go on sale? I'm in the UK but over in NYC at the end of June 2010 for a week and really want to book to see this!! I read somewhere they are on sale to American Express holders already but wondered when they'll go on general sale? And where I would book them from? Ticketmaster.com?? Thanks people!

I have to admit that I am not at all familiar with this show, but I really do like the poster.

re: The 'Promises, Promises' Poster is GREAT.

There were two poster designs for the Original Broadway production.
The "girls around the key" motif was used on the out of town tryout playbills, ads and window cards, the Original Broadway Cast Album, the Original London Cast Album and sheet music.

The "girl with legs open" motif was used on the Broadway production window cards, the first official hardcover printing of the show's book and I believe the Shubert theater marquee as well.

Sorry, I look at Sean Hayes and I see Jack McFarland from Will and Grace, who I LOVED. Can I get past it and believe him playing a straight man????? Hope so, because I really want to like this show.

The poster is ok. I like the design, but the photos are rather generic and uninspired.

Bad casting, yes...but, shouldn't Sean LOOK old if he's going to be playing opposite Kristin who is 41 herself?

I, personally, love the artwork. I think it totally captures the essence of the time period.

I want to have high hopes for this show because I am SO excited Promises, Promises is finally getting a Broadway revival, but it's hard to have high hopes when I totally disagree with the casting decisions...

All I know is that I can't wait to see "Turkey Lurkey Time" performed on a Broadway stage :)

re: The 'Promises, Promises' Poster is GREAT.

The poster IS great, to be sure of that. I think that Sean and Kristin will do a fabulous job with this production. I don't see much "Jack McFarland" in the photo since Jack had much shorter hair and was parted down on the opposite side with a little spikey in the front. Sean's hair is longer in this picture and not as layered as his days playing Jack McFarland in Will and Grace.

Both actors are right actors for the right part IMO. Both are professionals and will do wonderfully. The design is of a Period look with the zany 60's style of fonts and color scheme.

Some posters here seem a little bitter, jealous, and/or have some anger over the casting of this project. But this is a free forum of expression to exchange ideas and viewpoints on Broadway projects, etc.

This production seems like it might be heading in the winners direction. The rehearsals have NOT even started much less the preview shows so alot of prejudging going on without intelligent merit or basis of actual seeing the show which has yet to come to the stage, not yet Open Curtain, 1st Act.

I am fully behind this show and hope it succeeds!

If the age of the leading lady were a factor, we would have never seen "The Sound of Music" among others. Most Juliets aren't 13 as the story calls for and few swans are actually dying onstage. Nobody bitched when Kristin Chenoweth played a teenager in Wicked long after she'd been dalying with Aaron Sorkin. From 20 feet away, Kristin will seem to be 21.

It's called ACTING.

yeah i know it's an old bump and was looking up the poster. anyway...this reminds me of the Down With Love poster look with Ewan McGregor and Renee Zelwegger. Different poses but same genre.
