The ACTUAL Ragtime poster art... — Page 3

I think it works, and that the poster art really doesn't matter that much. It isn't boring, and that's all that matters in my opinion.

i don't care for the poster too much, but who really cares? the show itself will be f***ing brilliant.

I don't like the full big poster, but I do like the smaller on they use: http://twitpic.com/fgckm
Some people paint, some people sew, I meddle.

Stunning as art. Terrible as advertising. If they removed the word "Ragtime" and just hung it on a wall, I would love it, but as a poster advertising that specific show, I think it's overthought and conceptualized to death. The whole "our time/their time" comparison is trite and unnecessary. The show is not about how the past shaped the present or how the past compares to the present. It is about a very VERY specific period. Either the poster design is meant to be separate from the show or the concept of this revival is blurring the focus of the piece, which is already overflowing with subplots and characters of its own.

I agree completely. It's a fabulous poster - but it doesn't come close to representing the show I saw in DC.

Yea Frogs i was just about to say that it looks just like the cover of this weeks Time Out New York
I just got it and looked at the cover and was like hmmm looks familiar
and on the cover it does have ragtime (as it discusses it inside) so im sure its no accident
I cant find a pic anywhere online of it
but idk i think the art is alright
It looks kinda 50s/60s but it gives you something to look at
and like said: it doesnt matter the artwork...the shows going to be brilliant! :)

Ohhhh, that's what I liked about this poster. It reminds me of Monty Python animations! Hmmm, come to think of it, that may not be the best thing...

Well, the folks over at Time Out NY must have liked it enough to base their cover design (and include the show amongst other forthcoming productions) for this week's Fall Preview issue on it.
Anyone know where they post a "current issue" photo on their website?

The poster and Time Out cover was apparently done by Lorenzo Petrantoni according to playbill.com...it seems to be his signature style.

I think it's pretty cool, but I think it could do with some varying levels of opacity and a subtler gradient overlay.

Love. I have not been this excited about a revival since I heard about Patti Lupone playing Patti Lupone in Gypsy!

As an artist, I like it a hugely. But, I don't think it is very representative (or appealing) of a Broadway production. It is more suited for a business or a convention type of scenerio.
