Seeing "The Apple Tree" reminds you exactly what is great about musical theater. There isn't a sour note in the entire production and the two hours you're sitting in Studio 54 seem more like ten minutes, it flys by so fast. Kristin Chenoweth is more charming than ever (if that's even possible) and makes it seem as if Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick sat down and wrote this show just for her. Seeing her live on stage again reminds you that she is the real deal - a genuine star. Brian d'Arcy James as Adam in the first act will have you laughing hysterically and than a moment later break your heart. When the curtain came down at the end of the first act and I had tears running down my face, I was very pleasantly surprised, as I know the show so well I really didn't expect to be moved as much as I was. And than there's Marc Kudisch who, of course, is marvelous. Even though he is completely underused in the first act, his Balladeer in the second act and Narrator in the third more than make up that. But looking back, the highest compliment I can pay would have to go to Jonathan Tunick for his brilliant orchestrations! That was the first thing my friend and I noted when the show ended, was just how amazing and lush it sounded.
And yes, as someone asked somewhere - The boys are mostly shirtless in the second act. Except Brian. He keeps his shirt on.

Thank you for that review. I'm so glad the orchestrations sounded great! I'll be there this Friday (and again on Saturday, January 20th).

I'm not sure how that works. Usually in 3 act plays they have a pause after the first act about about 5 mins and then they have a proper intermission after the 2nd act. Usually about 10 mins or so.
For WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? a couple years ago, there were two 10 minute intermissions.
I'm not a huge Chenoweth fan, but I do have interest in seeing this. Thanks for the review!!!
The show was fantastic! And Kristin was beyond amazing! I highly recommend it!!
Glad to hear positive things, especially for Brian. I'll be seeing it Dec. 16th!
Wow - this sounds great! I hadn't heard too much about it, but now I just might have to get myself a ticket...

When they did it at ENCORES!, they had an intermission after "The Diary of Adam and Eve," and a pause between "The Lady, or the Tiger?" and "Passionella." Was that how they did it at this show?
I'm excited about seeing this as well. Loved the ENCORES! production and it sounds like I'm going to love this production as much as I loved the former.
By the way, Norn, I can't wait to SEE your drawing of this show.
I saw it last night as well and really enjoyed it. The only complaint I had was the set design. Looked cheap and unfinished.
The intermission is the same as at Encores: 15 min after Act I and a short pause between II and III.
I really wish I could come to New York and see this show, o well, i guess Ill have to make due with a cast recording when it comes out...
i really enjoy cheno and i have a place in my heart for this score so i will definitely show up.
How is the seating for this show? I haven't been in Studio 54 since Cabaret was in there, so I'm trying to picture the orchestra section with regular rows of seats instead of tables.
Also, does anyone know how the view is from the rear mezzanine? I know those are pretty cheap and I really want to see the show but can't spend much right now. Thanks!

I can't wait to see photos from this show. I really know nothing about it, so I'm excited to see what its all about. Was it pretty packed? I would imagine it was.

yeah, i was also wondering how the seating is for the show. I'm in Row K on the Left, and I read the rows only go back to Row P, so...must be pretty far back, I guess. Will I still get a good view?
Sorry for the bombardment of questions!
There are only a total of 920 or so seats for the venue, split about evenly between orchestra and mezzanine. In row K your view should be fine..for that matter just about any seat in the house should be fine.

Does anyone know what the deal is with Student Rush for this show? I'm getting to the city at 11:30 on Saturday...what are my chances of getting a ticket to this?
