Has anyone else decided to give loved ones tickets to the theatre for the holidays? I've never really done that before as it's a big time commitment and everyone has different tastes in what they like to see. But I really wanted to support advanced sales of Broadway shows this year. So, I've bought tickets for 2 different relatives to see 2 different shows. Funny Girl in the Spring and Company in the Summer.

I got my mother a ticket to see Six on 12/16. It'll be one of her first shows back, since reopening. She's recently boosted, and is very excited to get back to the theatre.

I never buy tickets to a specific show on a specific day as gifts. I offer a list of shows and tell them to let me know and I'll get the tickets. Exchanging and God forbid returning tickets is an expensive hassle that I refuse to endure unless I have to.

One thing you can do is print out the playbill (or enclose one if you have one) and tell your giftee to pick a date and time that works for you to both attend. That way it can be a surprise but you won't necessarily risk picking a date they can't work with. (Or you can get them a TodayTix gift card!)

I always do! I'm similar to soulmistin where the present is more a promise to buy tickets to a show at a later date that works best for both of us.

What's great right now is that most if not all tickets are refundable up to 48 hours before curtain.

This is one of the best gifts to receive, and I love going with my folks, even if they buy tickets mere minutes before curtain.

My kids gave me TKTS gift certificates. You can use to buy full price tix if half price is not available for a particular show, plus TDF gets a buck or two. A lovely gift.

It’s helpful that both of my parents are flexible and love Broadway shows so I curate my selections for them and just tell them, “Hey, we’re seeing this show on this date. Merry Christmas!”

I have only recently started doing this, but I love it. On Tuesday, I ‘surprised’ my really good friend and her husband with tickets to Waitress for her birthday. She LOVES Sara Barielles, he has never seen a show on Broadway but is very into the arts, and I was gonna end up seeing it again anyways. They had a wonderful time!

I’ll be giving tickets to two shows as Christmas gifts this year (tickets are for the spring so more time to plan around). I think it’s actually a great gift idea if you can make it happen!

I got my 8 yr old nephew tickets for his birthday for HP Cursed Child. The lucky kid gets the added bonus of experiencing a Covid test. because the theater just updated their policy so he will need his first shot 14 days in advance of the show date. The show is Sunday and he had his first shot on 12./1. He missed the 14 day window by 2 days. The test has to be within 72 hours of the show time and he is getting the test today. I just hope we get the results back in time for the show. I also scheduled a rapid test for Sunday morning just in case. I'll cancel that if we don't need it.

I usually get my Mom tickets for us to see a show! This year for her birthday (and Hanukkah… with the price of these tickets oy… lol) I bought us tickets to see the Music Man in April! However, I wrote “IOU tickets to the music man” in the card - that way, she was able to pick the date and time that worked best.
