The Great Comet: Rush & Review

I want to see Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, but I also can't afford the $100+ ticket price. Is there a rush or something? I can't find any information.

I did the rush over the weekend and got a nice seat at a table. I loved the show.

Went tonight. There is indeed a rush of $29 two-hours before the show. The box office was super chill and the guy was very nice; was nice when compared to the cranky Broadway theater box offices.

The show was pretty incredible. The music is just so interesting from the underscoring to the actual melodies. The women's songs are the best by far.

The setting and experience is just really interesting and makes for a fun evening, but sitting on the stools by the stage - as opposed to the chairs where most people sat - proved to be pretty tiring.

I loved everyone in the cast. The only person I was a little confused by was Lucas Steele. Just didn't quite get his performance. Couldn't understand a thing he said and his random high notes were ... different.

Wish this could somehow be eligible for the Tonys so it could win best score/musical/actress. But the only way I could see it working is in the Booth with the seats taken out. Even the Circle seems to big to me.

I dont know much about the show, but I really want to see it. Do they serve food? If so, do they serve food to everyone, including rush ticket people?

I was there last night as well. I loved it but had a lot of trouble understanding the woman who played Sonya as well as Lucas Steele, as RippedMan said. The serve food to everyone but they serve significantly less than they did downtown. Just borscht, a peroggi, rolls and some crudités. Downtown they had salad, frittata, lox, and cookies as well.

But yeah, they served me rolls and potato something-rather. They offered to take my order and then just never came back, so I just never ordered anything. They also moved everyone around me to a normal table, and then I was just left stranded.

But yeah, agreed. The girl playing Sonya has such a beautiful solo, but her voice is so interesting that's hard to quite tell what she's saying especially when she's singing with other people. I wondered what the show would be like if they re-cast it with musical theater actors. I know it'd loose a little of its charm, but it'd be nice to hear people who can actually project their voices, etc.

There is an A La Carte food and drink menu that you pay for, obviously, but then you do get a borscht shot, veggies and dip, a potato pierogi (not prepared as well as the pierogies you can get from a la carte), and black Russian bread included with your ticket. And there are pitchers of water and glasses already on the table when you arrive, too.

Thanks for the report, RippedMan! I've yet to see this and now that they've implemented rush, I have no excuse not to. Did you show up exactly two hours beforehand? Was there a line?

I got there about like 5:45 and just stopped in. There was no one in the lobby and the guy was just reading a book. I was like "Do you have rush or something?" and he just sold me a ticket then. Not sure how many or if anyone else came after me, but it was super chill and obviously there's no bad seat because of the nature of the show.

I only got the potato thing and the Russian bread with my ticket. No shot or anything or veggies, but I didn't buy a premium ticket or anything, so I wasn't offended. I would have liked to have some vodka because I felt a little excluded when everyone raised their glasses and took their shots, but eh. It's an awesome show, and I'm sure I'll go back sometime.

I was there last night, too- my bf bought a pair of tickets last minute with a discount code. We did think the prices very exorbitant for food and drink, and the amount of "complimentary" fare skimpy- but we didn't pay full price, so it really didn't bother us too much. It is definitely an atmosphere that encourages, and is perhaps best enjoyed with, libation.

The show itself was pretty fantastic. I had no real familiarity with War and Peace and found it very easy to follow (the sliver of plot they use is strikingly similar to Anna Karenina, actually). The performers were across-the-board great- I had no problems with intelligibility from anyone, but perhaps it was because I was situated near Brittain Ashford and Lucas Steele for their biggest numbers. The score is definitely one of the best I have heard from a work of musical theatre in some time. Really incredible.

A show that I can say is worth all the hype.

I came hungry since I hadn't eaten lunch, and I was quite full by the end. You get 2 potato pancakes (pierogis?) and borscht/a drink that tastes like beet juice which is absolutely delicious, at the beginning of the show, along with some horseradish sour cream/mayo dip which is really tasty. After intermission, you get a lot of different veggies (celery, carrot sticks, and a few veggies I never saw before but that I loved) with some very tasty dip, and 5 or 6 tasty small rolls with raisins inside, and butter on the side. The $29 rush seats are a very good value, and the box office person is exceptionally nice. The set is absolutely beautiful and stunning, and there are only about 100 seats per performance. The acting itself is not quite at a Broadway level, but the experience overall is a lot of fun and I would certainly recommend that you experience the show, the atmosphere, and the great food especially at the steal price of $29. And there is one song with a catchy refrain that I really enjoyed that stays in your head. Go see the show!

I wish I had had you next to me! I had on clue what the stuff was that was on my plate when you walk in. I thought it was salad dressing. Either way, even without food, I think the show is stellar.

Really disappointing to me that something like this won't win any major awards. It's score is probably better than anything you'll hear on Broadway this year.

They added an evening performance for this Sunday only (the 13th) at 8pm. I guess with Columbus Day on Monday... *shrugs* Anyways, I found a $79 discount ticket just for that night. Pretty bummed that I can't go (I had a blast when I saw it downtown!) but maybe it would be usefully for y'all.

I went on a Wednesday evening and got a ticket. According to the press release it was only for matinees and some select nights, so I'm guessing it's an every day thing now.
