She was very generous! She cured AIDS!
She may not have cured anyone. But she healed people.
How many of us will be able to say that when we get our fatal dose of Propofol?
"I helped feed the needy. I helped clothe the poor. I healed people with laughter."
How many of us will be able to say any one of those statements...starting with you, broadwayfever?

Did she change water into wine? Did she walk on water?
Why not start a petition to make Joan this first Jewish saint!
It was already done by San Diego Human Rights Commissioner (and Queen Mother of the Imperial Court de San Diego) Nicole Murray-Ramirez, when he gave Joan an award and said, “Joan was not only Joan Rivers, but for the HIV/AIDS community she was our Joan of Arc!”

This is just so overblown and so overstated and so entirely ridiculous. I'm so frigging sick of hearing about Joan and her healing. Kudos to her for draping herself in animal fur and QVC jewelry and dropping turneys off on Thanksgiving morning and dining with the Reagans and voting for that cutie George W because he said he'd cut her taxes which she said was her only issue.
I AM SO FRIGGING SICK OF HEARING HOW GREAT SHE WAS FOR GAY PEOPLE.
She said you're stupid.
But she was, Blanche. She was.
You can't escape!

Joan LOVED her gay fans. And gay people in general. She was socially liberal, but wanted to be able to keep more of the money she earned. It was certainly her right to feel that way, though I may disagree in principle.
I believe that in 2008 she voted for Obama, showing that she was open minded and not a slave to one party like so many are.
I have nothing but respect and love for her. I will miss her, and I'm glad they dimmed the nights for her tonight.
Good night, funny lady.

Joan rasing awareness for her friends who were dying in 1984.
In 1984.
1984!
What were you all doing in 1984?

You forgot to mention all the people she hurt and bullied with her demeaning and degrading comments. She made a living off of putting people down, tearing them down, and even bullying people. So please, quit trying to rewrite her history and her actions with her words.

Darrey..."Joan made fun of EVERYBODY- including Herself. Get over yourself!"
So just because she made fun of herself, that gave her the right to bash gays, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Muslims, etc? She was a vile person who was demeaning and degrading towards others. She not only did this as part of her comedy routine, she did this in her real life...just watch some of her street videos.
Joan had fun with people in the PUBLIC EYE. Sorry, but I shed no tears for the Kardashians, or Annie Duke, or any number of lame-o reality folk.
Maybe she was a bit harsh with Liz Taylor, but that was years and years ago. Joan is ok in my book.
Broadwayfever, you are on the wrong side of history.

@lovebwy - Wrong side of history? LMAO Joan Rivers was a Republican who was a racist and a bully. I'm afraid you and her are on the wrong side of history.
Joan was not a racist. Joan made fun of EVERYBODY. Herself more than anyone.
Joan was an equal opportunity offender.
Again, I suppose we should just agree to disagree.
I hope People magazine will follow.

Lovebwy..."Joan was an equal opportunity offender."
Is that supposed to make it ok?
Fever- absolutely. I do not want to live in a world where everyone walks on eggshells and only says bland neutral things out of fear of offending somebody.
I want passionate people who are funny and say what's on their mind and are willing to mix it up. Did I like or agree with everything Joan said? Hell no! But I would fight to my death for her right to say them. And I ALWAYS found her interesting to listen to.
She was a wondaful woman, and human being, with all the foibles and flaws that the rest of us have.
I'm just glad they came to their sense and dimmed the lights. We won!!!

She was a transphobic, body-shaming, genocide-supporting comedian who made a career in part on ethnic, racist, and rape jokes. She was by no means a wonderful woman, so quit trying to act like she was a Saint.
Don't be silly. She was none of those things--and you know it!
Even the progressive, left-leaning ThinkProgress.org called her "One Of The Earliest And Loudest Gay Icons":

I wonder if she voted for Reagan when she was busy being an early and loud gay icon.
Nancy Reagan, ironically enough, was a very quiet gay rights advocate upon learning her own son was gay.
I myself am a Democrat-however, I practice what I preach-TOLERANCE. I have several friends who are Republicans (being fiscal conservatives with a liberal social view). I don't think ALL Republicans are bad nor do I think ALL Democrats are good. I think we need to strike a balance here.
Joan clearly stood up for gay rights and causes as has been well documented. I really admire her courage for standing up-even before Elizabeth Taylor and others-for the rights of the LGBT community and int he fight against AIDS.
There are many, many people who vote strictly based on a single issue, whether that be taxes, abortion, guns, etc, often to their own detriment. That does not make them bad people, nor should it couple them to every position of the party/candidates for whom they vote.
