One thing I really miss on the recording is the sound of Ariel's voice as it's being pulled into Ursula's shell.
Agreed.
Honest question - am I the only one who gets really emotional listening to this recording? I suddenly feel like I'm 6 all over again.

The Little Mermaid: Original Broadway Cast Recording
is #10 on iTunes' Top 10 Albums!
UPDATE: When you click on the Top 10 Albums link, it says it is #13 while it says #10...?

Posted: 2/28/08 at 7:36amI know "If Only" is so generic and the lyrics are practically happy meal toys, but it gets to me! I think it's the music. Especially the part when they sing at the same time and you can hear Ariel above everyone else, "But time keeps racing forward and our moment's almost passed!!!"

lol, "how could she disappear into thin water...?" *headdesk*
They get to me too, though. Even on the demo version, with only the piano accompaniment, is so pretty in the beginning.

A great deal is a nice price for something good. That ain't the deal in this joint.
TLM music & lyrics will go down as one of the worst of 2008 I fear, dear.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I hope you're just talking about Glenn Slater's lyrics (which are pretty banal), but Alan Menken's music and Howard Ashman's lyrics are still phenomenal. I just can't see how you can make that statement when the score includes "Under the Sea" and "Part of Your World"...

I would agree about the new songs.
Don't get mad - I'm not sure how I feel about it myself, I was just thinking...
I'm suprised that when they were looking for a new lyricist they didn't ask Schwartz. However you feel about his music he has worked with Menken on numerous disney projects. However you feel about Schwartz's music, I can't help feeling that it would have been a lot better.

Yeah, the new songs are very meh, except for four: "She's in Love" (mostly agreed on), "Her Voice" (again, agreed on), "Beyond my Wildest Dreams" (like the Kerry Butler version better though) and then the one that people will disagree with me on wholeheartedly: "Human Stuff". Sue me, it's a short, catchy tune. Sure, it wrings the hell out of the dinglehopper joke, but I happened to find myself humming it at work all the time. So Alan Menken seemed to have done his job on that one...
...but Positoovity...my god, that's an awful song...

I got the CD at F.Y.E. today at mall. The booklet is to die for! :) Great pictures from the cast photo shoot. I also noticed that Tituss' face looks... well... see for yourself. The CD art looked fine... I would've preferred the picture disc but why spend like $8 more dollars including shipping?!
The songs flow seemlessly from "Overture" to "Finale". The only songs I kinda felt were not for me were "Positoovity" and "Her Voice". "Her Voice" seems a little bad but I imagine it as Eric's 'Hopelessly Devoted' from Grease. That makes it seem better. "Positoovity" is ok but from what I've seen from videos, it sounds better onstage. On the CD I can hear the tapping but from the stage it looks and sounds much better.
My CD also had 'the skip'. I did though include my 'skip-free' version on my iPod instead of the one from the actual CD. I barely have enough time to try to listen to the entire thing. I am listening to "The World Above" on my iPod. I am hoping there are no more skips within the songs.

Posted: 3/1/08 at 10:28pmI think I prefer Kerry Butler's version, too. Although I do think Sierra is better live than she comes off over the recording.
