After seeing Young Frank, I could not stop thinking about an ugly backpack that said, "Got Hump?" Who buys that garbage?!?! I know theaters make a ton on this stuff, but it is horrible. What are some crazy items you have seen, and do people acutally buy this crap?

someone on this board asked how much that was. i'm assuming this would mean they'd be interested in buying it.

I've actually seen two of those backpacks walking around town! I'm pretty sure they say "what hump?" which is a joke in the show.

those green monkeys at Wicked. Selling stuffed monkeys at Inherit the Wind. The stuffed cow they sell at Rent. Really wasn't crazy about selling the aprons at Sweeney Todd. Why don't you just sell stork dolls at Spring Awakening?

Sometimes merch can be a little over the top.

As long as its relatable to the show in some way, I really don't mind it.

Though I gotta admit...that backpack from YF is heinous and having stuffed animals as little mascots to symbolize your show is a bit much.

*cough* I do own the RENT cow though *cough*

Ave Q tiny puppets would be the best idea ever.

The stuffed honey bee at The Color Purple. Just because of one little lyric. I actually had to think about its reason for being sold.

Its 'What Hump?' its one of the classic lines in the movie! How could you not know that. 'What jump' !

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

How about sexiest merchandise? I adore my Tarzan loincloth key chain with the little green rock climbing link. That was an inspired piece of memorabilia. Only thing is that the little charm was pretty cheap. The green paint chipped off the very first day. Updated On: 11/7/07 at 04:48 PM

I have the T shirt but doubt I would look quite the same in a towel.

Mrs R loved the photo of the hunk.

I understand mugs, magnets, and programs. Anything else just escapes me. As far as t-shirts, I always think of Jeanine Garofolo talking about people who wear the t-shirt of the band at the concert and saying "please don't be THAT guy." Plus, I never understood the mark-up on a t-shirt. I'd never pay 30 bucks for something I'm gonna sleep in.

I think the merch people look for the cheapest items that they can print on. I never understand the logic-some shows have nothing and some practically have a retail store. I mean, Xanadu, doesn't have a program, but they have leg-warmers and barettes. :)

I think that the line in the song THE COLOR PURPLE goes.. Like A Honey Bee... All A Part of me. So it is a line and a lyric.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

LMAO...."What hump?" I love it...

people who like random things and something other than show t-shirts buy that stuff...

I have no less than 30 show tees, but I love my Drowsy Chaperone Monkey, my "I love Link" button and the other random stuff I have like that...it's way more fun...

and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

I'm partial to the "Got Guilt?" tee at Altar Boyz, myself. Heh.

I also loved those East Hampton tees that Grey Gardens sold. But the stupidest thing? I'd have to say the cheap nylon backpack they had at RENT (do they still sell those damned things with the programs? Tacky.).

I actually bought the Mrs. Lovett apron at Sweeney and have used it around 3 times now as a costume at vrious parties...and for a costume, that's a pretty good lifespan.
