So if you’re like me you’ve been so ecstatic at the possibility of a Muppet Show revival on ABC. (PS. If you haven’t watched the special that came out this week WHAT ARE YOU DOING???, go watch it on Disney+ right now and if you look very closely you might see two Broadway names in the audience).
But that got me thinking, since the original run of the Muppet show from 1976-1981 had some notable Broadway legends as special guest stars including Bernadette Peters, Carol Channing, Ethel Merman, Joel Grey, Ben Vereen etc. What Broadway stars do you want to see on this new era for The Muppet Show?
The special was SO great. Everyone I know has been raving and rightfully so. Just a total joy and feels like no time passed since the original show.
Jen Simard and Megan Hilty would be delightful with the Muppets, as muppety as they both are. As would Kristin Chenoweth.

I've heard it said that Muppet Christmas Carol worked because Michael Caine treated the Muppets as fellow actors, and Muppet Treasure Island worked because Tim Curry treated himself as a fellow Muppet.
I think Andre De Shields would suit the former, and Christian Borle would suit the latter.

I totally agree, and I gotta give Alex Timbers deserves a lot more credit here. It's like he really captured the original vibes of The Muppet Show did not change a single thing about what made it special and timeless, but give it a contemporary with the addition of Sabrina Carpenter (arguably the best choice for a theatrical return and I'm not just saying that as a theatre kid who's a massive fan of her).
OOOOO That's a very good idea for a guest star/s. Also while we're on the subject of iconic Broadway divas, how about an episode where it's Patti LuPone vs. Miss Piggy: two icons, zero compromise, one very scared orchestra. I'm also shocked nobody has thought about Audra McDonald or Idina Menzel

I can already see an Idina/Kermit duet of "It's Not Easy Being Green"

We are not worthy of having Andre with the Muppets. That would be an icing on the cake just give him all the awards now

I can already see Andre & The Muppets doing something from Hadestown

Cynthia Erivo now carries the Elphaba torch so having Idina, who the mainstream audiences have no clue who she is or what she looks like - aside from being the “Let it Go” singer - makes zero sense. ![]()
Ooooo, I adore this thread. (And based on how magical the one-off was this week, I *really* hope it gets picked up, haven't seen any ratings or streaming #'s yet.)
Echo all of the previously mentioned folks - some dream casting of my own:
- Sir Ian McKellan having a Shakespeare-off with Uncle Deadly would be the stuff of dreams, as well as a diva-duel with Miss Piggy. (This is also likely my still being *shook* by that monologue he did on Colbert the other evening.)
- Jonathan Groff would be adorable.
- Speaking as an admitted superfan, Jinkx Monsoon would be a blast.
- The idea of Lena Hall jamming with Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem will live rent-free in my head well after I've passed away.
I just want one thing: keep The Moopets away from this reboot.

You can Google and find a clip of Erivo singing a version of “It’s Not Easy Being Green” with Oscar the Grouch. It’s pretty sweet!
As for guests, I’d live to see Sam Tutty as a guest, as I’m pretty sure this charming young guy may actually be a Muppet anyway! 😄

You know that sounds like a good idea…and while we’re on the subject of more younger fresh Broadway names let’s get Joy Woods or Rachel Zegler on there at some point.

Yeah, there’s definitely more Muppet Show episodes incoming…and honestly I can’t wait to hear what Broadway names they decide to get involved. I mean Alex Timbers directed the special so you know he’s definitely gonna get more Broadway talent involved. Let’s keep those dream Broadway guest stars incoming
