"The New Girl in Town" from the HAIRSPRAY: Movie Musical!

Marc Shaiman...total genius again!

Can NOT stop listening to Brittany Snow's "The New Girl in Town" number from the upcoming film-version of the musical HAIRSPRAY.

Period perfect and I can so hear Darlene Love singing this back circa 1962 with The Blossoms.

Wow!

Is it just me or is anyone else sorta underwhelmed by Queen Latifah's vocals in the movie? Motormouth is suppose to be a powerhouse of a vocal and Queen sounds sorta lacking.

I love 'The New Girl in Town' and I agree that it is period perfect. Marc Shaiman is such a GENIUS. I love this guy. I think Brittany sings like 2 lines though...
"I mean, sitting side by side with another man watching Patti LuPone play Rose in GYPSY on Broadway is essentially the equivalent of having hardcore sex." -Wanna Be A Foster. "Say 'Goody.' Say 'Bubbi.'" ... "That's it. Exactly as if it were 'Goody.' Now I know you're gonna sing 'Goody' this time, but nevertheless..."

Where can you hear the number?
"In the U.S.A. You can have your say, You can set you goals And seize the day, You've been given the freedom To work your way To the head of the line- To the head of the line!" ---Stephen Sondheim

Wow .. I'm very underwhelmed with Amanda Bynes .... and
"very" is an understatement. "Without Love" sounds ........... not good. I understand the cast members in this movie are not Broadway caliber as the original broadway cast was ... but Amanda Bynes must be one AMAZING actress in the movie, because her singing sounds like a less than mediocre high schooler.

haha ... I was trying to find some words to describe it ... I just couldn't. It's really NOT bad ... just .. not good. I miss the energy of the OBC. "Without Love" has always been one of my favorite songs ... and this new version is just missing something.

Well I've seen the film and I think you will be underwhelmed by a lot of the voices. I enjoyed the film but I really wanted a stronger Motormouth... a big black gospel belter to give me OH OH OH OH you cant stop the beat instead of oh oh oh you cant stop the beat

I definitely agree that Latifah is underwhelming. Everyone knows she can do much better. IMO, James Marsden sounds excellent as does Zac, I was pleasantly surprised.

I've got a link that leads to 9 leaked songs but I'm not sure if it's okay to post or not. PM me if you'd like it.

Okay. Call me crazy. I enjoyed all three. But then I always enjoy listening to different versions of songs. That is one of the reasons I have been SO looking forward to this movie. A new take on an old favorite of mine. I don't want the songs to sound like the OBC recording. I think the vocals are just fine even darn good and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new musical arrangements.

I thought the same thing... until I heard her "Big, Blonde, and Beautiful". I was shocked by how well she performed that.

Amanda Bynes? Different story. re: 'The New Girl in Town' from the HAIRSPRAY: Movie Musical!

Amanda may not have the best singing voice for penny...but I thought she did a great job with it! But "The New Girl in Town" is a great song..I wish Brittnay sang more I like her voice a lot!

Damn, Queen owns "Big, Blonde, and Beautiful."

Love the song. My kind of stuff. Perhaps those who have seen the movie can confirm it for me, but isn't this sung during 'Negro Day' on the Corny Collins show? It's just because I remember the Dynamites doing the 'whoa whoa whoa whoa' bit in one of the clips while they're on the CC set from Oprah.
