What he said was, quote: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "planning on it...
working on a very interesting side project right now (in addition to roa) that is top secret so...you never know" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So you never know. But now Miss Lizzy has found out he's PLANNING ON IT through January (*smoochies*). I wouldn't buy the airplane tickets for February yet, but that's just me..... (And I'd love to know what the sooper seekrit is!)
Would love, love, love a cast recording...I hope they can get the permissions. After all, something like that is only going to bring the original bands to the forefronts of people's minds again...to me it's a win-win. If anyone then gets drooling for an old Journey album because the cast recording has started them thinking about the good ol' days, they've made a sale! Updated On: 12/4/08 at 03:41 PM
Local news channel NY1 will have a segment on "Rock of Ages" on their show "On Stage" coming up this weekend.
Airtimes are as follows:
Saturday @ 9:30am (initial broadcast) Repeats at 7:30pm on Saturday, 9:30am and 7:30pm on Sunday, 9:30pm on Monday and 12:30am on Tuesday (aka Monday night)
And Jane2, I agree...rights for a cast recording is a whole different animal from rights for a stage production.
<<<< That's what I said..."planning on it." He was asked about January and February >>>>
Guess my lame attempt at humor didn't come across well. Oops. What I meant was, yes, he said he was "planning on it" for Jan & Feb, when he chatted at Deuce, but with a big "BUT" added (a caveat due to what might actually happen, depending on his other project). I believe what Lizzy found out was more definite, thus my -capitalization- of "PLANNING ON IT" lol. Anyway, glad he is, and thanks, Lizzy, for asking him.
Too bad about all the costs involved in the making of a cd. I guess it would be a pretty huge undertaking, but I hope it happens.
Jane2, I love your pretty kale :)
Hope someone local can capture that broadcast for posterity!
Sorry to hear of Nova's departure, too, but I'm sure casting will find someone amazing to fill her dancin' shoes.
<-------------just realized my avi is still Joe's Pub ... how apropos. December 23. Be there or be.... !!!
Here are two new video clips floating around the Web about "Rock of Ages"...and remember - the show will have a segment on NY1's "On Stage" this weekend!
- You can still catch the cast of ROA in a brief segment at the end of this week's "On Stage" on local cable channel NY1 tonight at 9:30p and again at 12:30am Tuesday. - Reports from Irvington, NY and the All-Star Broadway Holiday Concert are that the show was a terrific success, as always. Kudos to ROA cast member Tad Wilson (Swing)! - Tonight is the "Bound for Broadway" concert at The Kaufman Center, featuring ROA cast member Wesley Taylor ("Franz"). Christopher Spaulding (Swing) will be making his debut tonight in ROA as Franz - break a leg!!! :) - Today and tomorrow, ROA cast members will be performing at the 20th Anniversary "Gypsy of the Year Competition" at the New Amsterdam Theater on 42nd Street. Tickets are still available through http://www.bcefa.org - Broadway celebrity sighting - Norbert Leo Butz at Friday night's performance
Speaking of Friday nights, remember that the show's schedule has changed as of December 1st: There will only be ONE evening performance on Friday nights (at 8pm) and an additional performance has been added on Sundays (at 7pm)
Miss Lizzy, your Diva Denizen of Dupree's, checking in with a few news items...
First, the big news this week was the announcement of "ROCK OF AGES - THE MOVIE" (see the other threads here on BWW.com for all the discussion). The word on the web is that this film will see the light of day in 2010...stay tuned...
Next, a brand new Facebook fan group has been kicked off this week to support the congregation of the "temple of rock and roll kick-a$$ery! It is called "The Cry of The Strip" - The Semi Official Fan Group for "Rock of Ages and everyone is welcome to come over, grab a cold one, host a lighter in the air and join the fun...
Finally, several cast members (Constantine, Kelli, Will, Maisey and band leader Matt Beck) from ROA visited Jim Kerr at Q104.3 FM's rock and roll morning show today to discuss the show and sing a couple of songs. Direct your browser to the link below to sit in on the action...
Reminder: There will be changes to the show schedule for Christmas week - Telecharge will have the 411. :)
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'!!!!
I'm so flipping excited!!! I just got this google alert!!!
"Rock of Ages, the off-Broadway musical that rocks out to the sound of ‘80s so-called hair bands, is eyeing a Broadway run. The show, written by Chris D'Arienzo and directed by Kristin Hanggi, is aiming for a spring bow, possibly at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre."
Does anyone know the exact running time for the show? I am meeting people who are going to see wicked after and I was wondering if they end around the same time. On broadway.com it say that Wicked is 2 hrs and 45 min and that ROA is only 1 hr and 50 min. I thought for some reason it was longer. Is it? Thanks
AWSOME show! There was not one thing that I did not like about it. It was energetic, funny and the music was great. Was coming out of the bathroom and ran into Constantine and he was such a nice guy. Said he was going to be performing at Joe's Pub on the 23, hopefully will be able to make it. So happy that I saw this :)
Thats great I think they are defiantly good enough for broadway. My mom was talking to one of the guys in the play after (The funny guy who is like the narrator and reminds me so much of Jack Black lol) and he said that its in the talks to move to broadway and that it looks good. So exciting!
Thought this would be a good time to resurrect the thread, add a few news items...
First of all, as ya'll know from the other threads floating about on BWW, "Rock of Ages" is indeed closing off-Broadway next Sunday (January 4th). It is moving to Broadway (the Brooks-Atkinson, which "Grease" is vacating after next weekend) with previews beginning March 20th and opening on April 7th. Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster starting Monday, January 5th.
Second...cast departures...Nova Bergeron (Dance Captain / Ensemble) will be leaving the show after tomorrow (Sunday) to join the cast of "Wicked" on Broadway (I don't know her start date but will let you know when I do).Swing cast member Jackie Burns will be performing the roles normally played by Nova during the final off-Broadway week, starting tomorrow. The BIG cast departure news (and no, not a really big surprise) is the confirmation that Will Swenson is indeed going to "Hair" at the Al Hirschfeld. His last performance in ROA was tonight (Saturday) and his departure was announced by Constantine during the curtain call. Jeremy Woodard (Ensemble / Joey Primo) will be taking over the role of Stacee Jaxx for the remainder of the off-Broadway run.
Finally, NO Broadway castings have been confirmed yet (some BWWers in another thread have noticed the EPA posting on Playbill.) I assume we'll hear more in the next few weeks.
Have a rockin' new year!
Miss Lizzy Dupree's Broadway-Bound Diva Denizen (Yo, Dennis, we're gonna need more bubble wrap...)
Constantine was on the FOX News U Party last night. He talked about Rock of Ages moving to Broadway. He did say 'we' in reference to moving and previews and opening. I would take that as he is going with the show in case anyone was still wondering about that.
Jekyll & Hyde back on Broadway! / Rock of Ages - 5 Tony nominations! Awesome!
