Three-cheers for this outstanding musical revival, the BEST REVIVAL on Broadway! Conga!
why exactly do we need this
Because. There are a million Whicked threads and a bunch of Brooklyn threads, and no Wonderful Town threads.
I agree, it's a great show. I saw it in March and I absolutely loved it. I bought the songbook at Colony a few weeks ago.
true true amazing show but why is whats her name BROOK SHEILDS taking over for Donna ? anyone know?

Late Sept. is all I've heard re: Brooke.
who was donna's understudy? was it nancy anderson or the other chick
donna's standby is linda muggleston (who is amazing) and jennifer westfeldts's understudys are nancy anderson and susan derry( who are both great). Wonderful Town is such a great show. It deserves to be the next Chicago, so let's get the word out! Brooke Shields would not be getting the role if she was terrible, so lets wait and see. until then-

Have you ever heard of stunt casting? Lots of "stars" have gotten roles that they were in no way capable of handling. So you really can't use that as an argument on Brooke's (Brook's?) behalf. Nonetheless, I'm hoping she can deliver. She just might have the comedy chops....can she sing at all? The role isn't that demanding, having been written for Roz Russell, but it would nice if she could sing the love song.

First of all, we have to give Brooke the benefit of the doubt here. Have you seen her in the role yet? Until then, no one can make any judgements that she is "bad." Even if one didn't like her in another role, maybe she could suit this role fine. Yes, I've heard of stunt casting, and sure, that arguement may or may not be used on Brooke's behalf. Just wait and see...can't wait for any reviews!
Second, I think the role is based more on your comedic timing rather than singing ability. You don't want to have a Ruth Sherwood that sounds like a donkey on crack, she should be a good singer, but from what others have said here, the role is based more on the comedy chops.
I really want to see this show. Who do you think they will bring in for Eileen?

Both understudys were awsome--Linda Muggleston was great but I can't compare her to Donna because I haven't seen her in the part except for the Tonys, but I actually thought Linda was better in that sepcific song (despite the different contexts they were in).
Whoohoo for the Wonderful Town love!!
I think this is such an underrated show- I had so much fun when I went, and I immediately fell in love with the score and the show (and Donna Murphy).
