The Princess and the Frog?

Princess and the Frog, while very enjoyable, and had some great tunes, was just missing the punch that all the great Disney classics had. Which is why I think Tangled was a big step up.

I agree Johny, when I saw Tangled I was in disbelief that Disney let The Princess and the Frog pale in comparison.

Tangled is high on my list for a transfer to stage. I think if they could figure out a creative way to handle Rapunzel's hair, it could be fantastic. The music already sounds like it was meant to be for a stage musical.

It's also strange that they didn't acknowledge Tangled as a full animated musical.

Yes, the third reprise of When Will My Life Begin? is a perfect Act 1 finale.

The Princess and the Frog has a different and unique sound than all of the other Disney films, adding that the princess is African American (I'm just talking about the animated films here), and that could be so big for Disney to put it on the stage (since all we have seen are white princesses on stage from Disney) I didn't enjoy Tangled's music that much, it sounded too campy and cheesy to me...

I think Flynn and Rapunzel needed another ballad mid way through the film.

I think The Princess and the Frog would be a MUCH better stage show than Tangled. I love Tangled, but I think PATF would suit Broadway better.

If PATF was adapted, I think it would be so cool to see the whole stage and proscenium light up with fireflies (the tiny little LED bulbs they insert into set pieces). That would be so magical.

I think that Roger Rees and Alex Timbers would be good at directing it as well. I can see A LOT of star casting if it were to transfer. I think Rachel Potter would be a great Charlotte

Megan Hilty would be delightful as Charlotte.

PATF's score is IMO way better than Tangled's, and much more original.

@allthatjaz Of course PATF's score is way better, it is more original and theatrical. Even though Randy Newman did good with the songs already written, I would like to see Alan Menken combine with Newman or take over for the stage version. There will be a whole lot of writing for new songs going on.

Please Christopher Gattelli for choreography!

I agree, @justincharacter. Tangled had some great songs (Mother Knows Best) but overall, I'd love to see what Alan Menken/Newman could do with the PATF score.

@allthatjazz - Unless the role of Charlotte was expanded (which I hope it would), I don't think Megan Hilty would accept the presently small role. Also, I think Hilty is too masculine to play Charlotte. However, I'm sure she'd bring the house down laughing every night!

"I think Hilty is too masculine to play Charlotte"

I LOL'D

Charlotte would have to be expanded, I think her role is even too small just in the film

When the two main characters are frogs, wouldn't it be smart to have the scenery and other characters (puppets) WAY taller and bigger than the actors?

How could Marilyn be too masculine?

justincharacter, are you serious?? Randy Newman "more original and theatrical"?? You have got to be kidding me.

I'm sorry when someone says that Newman's bland, boring and repetitive music for the PATF is better than Alan Menken's beautiful, soaring music for Tangled; I really don't have any words at all.....

A team up with Alan and Randy seems a bit of a stretch don't you think?

EDIT: Besides, Randy's only good work OUTSIDE of Pixar is Cat's Don't Dance. Updated On: 7/17/13 at 08:11 PM

@Musical Master Yes, I'm serious. The music of PATF is FAR better than Tangled. I don't see what "soaring" numbers are in the film other than "I See the Light". Please tell me what other songs.

Mother knows best is probably one of the most witty villain songs. Talk about donnas thrilling reprise. Updated On: 7/17/13 at 08:35 PM

Thank you JohnyBroadway, I love Mother Knows Best and it's thrilling, and creepy reprise.

Sorry justincharacter, I should've said "soaring score". But Alan Menken IS a better composer than Randy Newman could dream in his sleep. But hey if you think it's superior than Tangled, then that's fine.

Oh the only song I don't like is When Will My Life Begin. But it's soaring reprise makes up for it though.

Of course Alan Menken is a better composer than Randy, although Randy did much better job with PATF. I didn't like Menken's music in Tangled, I was very disappointed. But, he has composed many incredible scores, but in my opinion the music in Tangled didn't do it for me unfortuantely

"It was so under appreciated at the box office."

As I mentioned before, it would have done better if 20th Century FOX had not moved up the release date of 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel' from March 2010 to December 2009 to cover losses just in case 'Avatar' bombed at the box office.

all that jazz said: "This has the potential to make a stunning production.

I would love to see a Ballet infused production, many of the moments in the film would work beautifully as dream sequences.

Leslie Odom Jr. would be interesting as the shadow man.
"

I second Odom as Dr. Facilier.  I've thought about Colman Domingo previously, but if this show ever happened and Domingo had gotten too old by that point, Odom would also be a good choice.

My avatar = A screencap from Avatar, arguably the greatest animated show of all
