I believe they are putting up the marquee today at the Lyceum, judging by the cherry picker and the workers milling around outside earlier this morning.

>weird colors of yellow<

Since the use of yellow in The Visit is questioned on message boards so often, including for the "Yellow Shoes" number, it bears mentioning that yellow is the color historically associated with greed and avarice.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Oy. The color yellow is integral to the story, and it certainly doesn't represent happiness and joy in this piece.

I haven't seen THE VISIT, but the shade of yellow in ljay's image - just a hint of greenishness - can also suggest illness, jaundice and death.

Sounds ripe for Kander & Ebb to have expounded upon!

This show is probably the one I'm most interested in, out of curiosity. Because nothing about THE VISIT as a play is in anyway comforting or reassuring.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

It does not appear to be selling to well. The dark subject matter may have something to do with it

The Lyceum is where the last K/E show The Scottsboro Boys played. Hopefully, history will not repeat itself. At least this one has a star called Chita in it.

Yeah, the yellow has absolutely nothing to do with joy in this show.

It's not like it's a horror fright-fest, but it's a dark story. The play that inspired the musical is a classic piece worth picking up at some point. I enjoyed the show quite a bit at WTF and was shocked how much it had changed since the Goodman incarnation. I found the performances to be top notch and that the sets and lighting were excellent.

I don't think this show is being mounted so some people can rake in the big bucks. It's being put up because it's an important piece of theater history (or will be). This is the last K&E show that both John and Fred worked on and completed. This show is the last piece of their legacy. That deserves to be recognized. Chita's involvement should be recognized because of the ups and downs this show has had and how she just rode it out when it wasn't even intended to be vehicle for her. We also know that given her advanced age, it's unrealistic to expect too see Chita on stage in a new show every season. She's indicated that she's slowing down and this could be her lost show. Much of her legacy comes from the work she did in K&E shows. I think it's appropriate both go out together.

No, it's not selling great, but nobody expected it to be the next Book off Mormon. It has a lot of support from the theater community who want this staged for so many reasons, big and small. There are several shows that I've seen the theater community rally behind and this falls into it that group.

having seen the show a few times in previous incarnations - including the WTF version
that's being presented. I would like to add- that indeed it's a dark show. But it has
many elements of comedy in it. I would classify it as a Tragicomedy. A beautiful and
very enjoyable production worth "the visit".

They had a press event from the theater today. Chita performed her stunning "11 o'clock number." Hopefully we'll see the footage soon.

I just saw a clip and I'm very excited for this show. I understand that its has never been to broadway, but do you think that it will be eligible for the Tony for best score and best NEW musical? It's been floating around for quite a long time which makes me wonder if it will be considered a revival. The music sounds pretty great and I'm very prepared for a cast album.

It'll definitely be in the NEW MUSICAL categories, including book and score. It's being branded and promoted as a "new musical." It has had 3 regional productions, all very different. The musical is hardly considered a "classic" yet and hasn't been performed as often as say ASSASSINS.

Any news of a cast recording? I imagine Jay would record it, which would be a bummer.

Will Chita be scheduled to do the matinee performances or will Donna McKechnie do these?

Here we go! Chita and Michelle Veintimilla in the stunning pas de deux "Love and Love Alone."
