Ridiculous for these landlords to jack up rent in a recession. Those spaces are going to go unrented and they could have gone on having audiences nightly.

Dammit, I loved that wacky, eccentrically laid out space.
Damn, that sucks. I've been there for several shows and loved the eccentricity of the lobby & car seats. I wonder what Don't Quit Your Night Job will find as a replacement venue.
It IS Awful. All these venues are going under- being snuffed outta town... or where ever the cool venues go to die. I'm really sad by this- with the loss of these types of spaces, I'm not really sure where downtown artists are going to do Shows. There are some great smaller cabaret type spaces, but nothing with quiet the size and capacity that the Cutting Room and The Zipper could hold and support. I'm at a loss for words at the moment...The Cutting Room and the Zipper have joined the Fez with other, now legendary venues.
This is extremely disappointing. It was such a fun, fantastic, funky place and the staff was so great. What a loss.
THIS IS DEVASTATING!!! It's unbearable what's happening to the indie arts community. Ugh... I hope Zipper employees (and those who relied on the space) are able to land on their feet.
Nooo! My heart just dropped into my stomach. And I do hope Don't Quit Your Night Job finds a new venue...

Would it be too much to ask for the government to bail out this venue and others like it? C'mon!!!!!

That's a shame, it's such a unique place! It just felt so warm and cozy to be in there.
Ouch

Very, VERY sad news.

Very sad news, indeed. I was only there once (for BASH'D) and found the venue very fun, warm, and cozy. Loved sitting in the car seats.

We saw Here Lies Jenny there and were absolutely charmed by the entire experience.
It turns out that was the neighborhood tavern of several friends of mine who I had lost touch with, who recognized us as we left the show. Ever since, we've all gotten together there 2 or 3 times a year to keep in touch. Now, i guess we'll have to find another watering hole, but it sure won't be one like that.
Sad news. I've had some good times at the Zipper.
This is really sad. It was one of my favorite venues. I'm glad I got to go one more time before it closed. I had a lot of good times there.
This is really, really sad.

Any information on where any of the other scheduled shows are being moved?
Or any suggestions of other spaces they might be able to get with little notice?
Joe Iconis gig set for Friday is moved to Dalton's. that's all i've heard.
Any information on where any of the other scheduled shows are being moved?
No idea how often it's being updated, but TONY Blog has a list...
The Zipper scatter: Canceled acts find new homes
That's not good - I liked the car seats - unique. Saw Euan Morton, and Margaret Cho there... Will miss it.
Moving any of the shows to Joe's Pub (tight uncomfortable seating, expensive food) simply isn't the same......
My friend in NYC just e-mailed me and told me it is closed. Wasn't Sigourney Weaver part owner?
