NEVER GONNA DANCE. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one, but I really loved that show.
LITTLE WOMEN. I admit, I saw it just because Sutton was in it, and I liked her so much in Millie, but I actually enjoyed this show very much as well.
TABOO. I never got to see it, but I got the OBCR, and now I could kick myself.
btw. Most shows lose money, and I would define a flop as as show that only ran a few months or less and lost just about all of its investments.

I didn't know the 2003 revival of Gypsy didn't recoup its investment so definitely that's the best show I've ever seen that flopped. And although I never really saw Ragtime, from the cast recording, reviews, and analysis of the show I've read I can tell it is a masterpiece.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

Piazza is produced by the not-for-profit Lincoln Center Theatre, so there is no "recouping" or considerations of "hit" or "flop" -- that's only for "for-profit" commercial shows. One would assume, though given the many extensions, that LCT is quite pleased with how well Piazza has done at the box office.

I'm sure I'll be mocked mercilessly but I'm not ashamed to admit:
BROOKLYN
Yes it was cheese a la mode, but the performances by Cleavant, Ramona, and Eden were knockout. I know the thread is supposed to showcase the musical over the performers, but they can't be left totally out of the equation.

Margo, I understand and agree with the definition of 'flop', but that word carries such a bad stigma.
Can we please not refer to anything written by Sondheim as a 'flop'? I think 'disappointment' sounds better.

Well the only show on Broadway I've seen that was a flop was Little Women, so I'll say... that one. Sutton was amazing.

I'll third Never Gonna Dance. And for those in the LA area, take note - Musical Theater West is doing it this season with a top notch cast.

I'll go with a tie - ANGELS IN AMERICA and CAROLINE, OR CHANGE. ANGELS I can somewhat understand, for reasons of length if nothing else. CAROLINE is still a mystery to me. Having seen the show here in LA, where it was absolutely adored, I can't imagine what didn't click in NYC.
