You thought Xanadu was a big mistake? Now that is depressing.

In what way was Xanadu depressing? Every time I see the show I end up laughing 'till I cry... I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just genuinely curious.

I vote for American Idiot, with orchestrations by Tom Kitt, who also did N2N. Next choice would be HAIR which is terrific too.

I don't really like jukebox shows....I want songs written for the show. I'm a big (but old) pop fan, and I songs i remember the first time around don't fit well in these concotions for me.. It all seemed a bit forced.
(..but then I've less of a problem with the way say GershwinPorter songs are shunted from show to show these days, cos i don't really know them all from their original settings)
I'm too old for Green Day (but the N2N connection may change things)

If you're looking for a book musical and something not yet in the West End, why not try:
Addams Family or Memphis?
I guess Million Dollar Quartet would also qualify, (but I haven't seen yet and can not recommend...maybe someone else here can?)
Others: Rock of Ages is fun, and more clever than your typical "jukebox musical", but I don't know if you would like...

hmmm,,,, Yank will close, Scottsboro Boys will have closed, too
you know, since you liked the idea of Passing Strange, you might check out
Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson at the Public Theater...not sure of its dates or whether it will extend, but worth looking into...

Can't say how they'll be as they haven't started performances yet, but I'm excited about The Kid and The Burnt Part Boys which will both be running Off-Broadway by then. Could be worth taking a chance on either.

I wouldn't go see Rock of Ages... Just saw it, mediocre at best. Funny, but not that memorable or great. Definitely a disappointment.

My suggestion would be for Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I'd agree about ROA...definitely not my type of show.
I'll keep an eye for the others ..Andrew Jackson sounds worth seeing if it's still on!

Skip BBAJ - it's unfinished at best. Unless, you have the desire to pay to attend a workshop. Memphis is worth seeing for the dancing. So are Addams Family and ROA. Although, I'm sure both will be in London so you can see there. Lend Me A Tenor is also excellent if open to an artful play.

For a fun time I would suggest "Fuerzabruta" off Broadway if you havent "experienced" it. I had a great time and I went by myself.

Hair.
Yes, go see HAIR
Or... since you're from the UK, you could just go see Hair in London with the original cast. Probably a better use of your money than seeing it here.
Even though I haven't seen it, I would say American Idiot. It's probably going to be impossible to get tickets to after the Tonys this year.

Rock of Ages!

I agree with the American Idiot suggestion. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm really looking forward to going. As for disliking jukebox musicals, this technically isn't one. Green Day wrote the American Idiot album as a concept album to be staged as a musical a la Tommy, so this production isn't a jukebox musical as much as their original intention coming to fruition. And I hear it's fantastic.
