Thoughts on "Spider Man" Future

What do you think will be the "Spider Man" Future that will be revealed next week?

Will it close?

Will it get another delay for it's opening?

What do you think?

Seeing as how it was on TKTS last night (30%)
I predict the future looks dim.

I am guessing it might close. Too much has happened with it. too many chances.

Thoughts on 'Spider Man' Future

All I know is that when a show makes an announcement about an upcoming announcement, it is not usually a good thing. I really do not want the show to close, but that looks like it could very well be a possibility.

After investing $65 million into this thing, I would hope they would not give up. What is most frustrating to me is that they have had the longest preview period ever and next to nothing has changed as far as I know. They need to start making extensive changes now if this will work.

I really think it would be incredibly stupid financially to shut it down at this point. I guess they could somehow market it internationally, probably more successfully than in NYC, but hey, that's also gonna take more money. I think it's just going to be a push back to June for the starting date.

At this point...I personally thing it would be a SMART financial decision. The show has a running cost that is now close to..or even over $1.2 million, it's ticket sales are apparently dropping already, and they have a budget of $100 million. It's going to take YEARS for it to recoup, and thats only if they sell out every show...and that is not going to happen.

Taymor's in 70 million bucks over her head. I doubt they're closing anything. Spidey's in it till the bitter end.

Pushing back the opening to June would be the best option right now. That gives them plenty of time to hopefully rework a lot of the problems with the books and bring in others to help.

The thing that gets me about this show is that they got the visuals spot on, and for a show like Spider-Man, that should be the hardest part to get right. The book should have been easy to get right. Everyone knows and loves the Spider-Man story so why make so many changes to the story that are confusing and do nothing to give the characters more depth? Just my two cents..

It is very interesting article, they never had one of these when they delayed an opening before, to me it sounds much bigger than that.

Perhaps a more seasoned theatre aficionado can fill me in but if it does close, is this the first time that a show has closed during previews? I mean I doubt it would be but none that I know of, and I don't include shows that have closed out of town in my question.

Jordan, They will make the announcement next week. They are awaiting Taymor to retrieve her Thongs between the two volcanoes. I know the yellow sulfurous smoke is burning her eyes but she will make it through! I KNOW IT!

perhaps they will announce it's going to close on broadway in favor of some international locale. Didn't tarzan close to open in Amsterdam or some such?

I have a funny feeling they will close also. I am sure they called in people to see what it would take to fix the show, found out just what a piece of very expensive dog poo they had. I sure it would take millions more to fix.

I am saying they will close.

But on the other hand bono was there the other night to see the show, so maybe finally major changes are coming!

Who knows, and really at this point do we care?

I think that if they close, it won't be a full closure. I could see them temporarily shutting down, putting in major changes, and then reopening. Then there would be (maybe?) more buzz about its new opening, since there should be definite changes at that point.

and are you sure? I'm pretty sure it opened.

There have been numerous musicals that have closed in previews, but CARRIE isn't one of them. Probably the most notorious musical flop to close in previews was BREAKFAST AT TIFFANYS- which was kind of the Spider Man of it's day- a very high profile, incredibly expensive mess put together byvtalented people who should have known better.

If this is an email that was sent to the cast- they are either closing in New York or replacing Taymor.

From a purely financial point of view, the only decision that makes sense to me is a closing. Nothing they can do with this production is going to improve the likelihood of recouping, so it makes sense to stop now.

The Little Prince and the Aviator, starring an 11 year old Anthony Rapp closed after 16 previews.
