If you want to see some of the best ACTING on Broadway right now, I'm told to go see NEXT FALL.
If you want to see great (and some legendary) performers sing some Sondheim, I'm told to go see SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM.
Neither will disappoint, I'm told (I cannot say for sure because I haven't seen them). Just go with what you are in the mood for. If it were me, I would choose NEXT FALL.

thanks for your thoughts. wish i could see them both as I am in the mood for both.
I was all gung ho on "next fall" and then I watched some clips online and it seemed a bit melodramatic. maybe they were just showing the overtly emotional stuff.

Posted: 4/27/10 at 12:47pmI really disliked both, but i'd chose Sondheim on Sondheim for the video interviews of Mr. Sondheim alone.

Posted: 4/27/10 at 12:49pmI have a feeling Ellen M. Krauss will get SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM recorded for PBS. And A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. Everything related to Sondheim gets recorded...

Posted: 4/27/10 at 1:13pmFollow your heart, don't ask for so many recommendations. Pick randomly otherwise. I think Next Fall is a play about a gay couple, with some comedy and some drama, amazing to some, boring to others. 'Sondheim' is a mediocre musical with a starry cast. Pick one and that's it. Musical or play?

Posted: 4/27/10 at 3:49pmI'd go with Sondheim on Sondheim.

Posted: 4/27/10 at 5:36pmI find both of them boring, but that's just me. There's so much better to see on Broadway, although I don't know how frequently you come into the city.

To See or Not To See: 'next fall' or sondheim#12
Posted: 4/27/10 at 8:38pmI vote for "Next Fall." But I haven't seen the Sondheim show, and I'd like to. I just know that I very much enjoyed Next Fall.

Avoid both. They are both terrible in their own ways. Seriously.

NEXT FALL. Hands down.
Although I doubt you'd be entirely disappointed with SONDHEIM...the video clips are almost worth the price of admission, even if the show itself is wildly uneven.

Posted: 4/28/10 at 1:03amSondheim on Sondheim- the chance to hear Cook, Williams, and co. sing his tunes coupled with the interesting video clips is more interesting than the melodrama over at Next Fall.

I'd see Next Fall.
I thought the Sondheim show was a bit of a snooze and might serve you better as a recording.

At Ben Brantleys recommendation, I went to see next fall.
i fell asleep.
I vote for anything but Next Fall.
In fact, I now just do the opposite of what Ben Brantley says.
