Yes and no, Blaxx. Carrey and Gyllenhaal were previously announced but this is the first time a director has been announced.

The problem with Carrey is that Applegate might have his role expanded to justify Carrey's salary.

My vote is Amy Adams. She's gorgeous and has a terrific voice. As for the updating I second the person who suggested "Baltimore Orioles". As a lifelong Oriole fan, I can tell you these past ten years are certainly 'Washington Senators' worthy!

As I mentioned in an older thread, Beyonce would make a great Lola. And I'd rather see her do this than the umpteenth remake of "A Star Is Born."

I'll take any of the above. Except Beyonce. She can do a ballad I guess, but she has precious little film charisma, much less in a comedic role.
