Munk, I have the following to say:
PAJAMA GAME over SWEENEY TODD
Absolutely agree.
La Chanze over Patti LuPone (this one's a travesty)
I still don't get how that happened.
GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS over WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?
Spot on.
THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE over URINETOWN
Granted, I only saw a tour...but it was the cheesiest piece of schlock I've ever seen. I don't get how this won over the geniously satirical URINETOWN.
CONTACT winning Best Musical. I'm still incensed about that. (And were many audience members who were led to believe that they were buying tickets for a musical.)
I thought that CONTACT deserved the award hands down. One of the best shows I have ever seen.
I loved CONTACT too. But being awarded Best Musical? No.

Whyever Jim Dale's gifted performance in Threepenny Opera went unrewarded, I do not know.
(and Sweeney Todd.)
The 2006 Tony Awards, period.
I think Avenue Q over Taboo is pretty bad (Score). I would wanted Taboo, and after that Caroline.
^^ agreed with everythingtaboo.
I think Patti being robbed was quite the travesty.
1984-La Cage Aux Folles should NOT have beat out Sunday in the Park with George for Best Score.
And everything Sweeney this year-especially Patti.
Contact as Best Special Event but as Best Musical with no original music & it using canned music , I think not

I must agree with everyone else. Anything relating Sweeney. Period. I'm still somewhat upset.
Edit in: Jersey Boys over Drowsy. I stand by it 100%. Drowsy should have had it.

Giving Contact the Tony for Best Musical was pure bullcrap. How did Aida not get nominated?
I have to say it, folks, it was a big boo boo not nominating Drew Sarich for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Lestat. Just like Carolee Carmello, his was a great performance in a not so great musical in my book. Plus, he was probably the only actor apart from Hugh Panaro who had ample stage time.
Think the nominating committee is gun shy nominating anything from shows universally panned

if you guys and gals can talk about the tony awards who won and who did not i can talk about shows that need to come out on cd like good vibrations and lesast and in my life.
I agree with Spamalot and Millie winning. Travesties.
How about William Daniels getting nominated for Best Featured Actor (which, rightly, he turned down) and thus not winning anything at all for 1776?

That is extremely true. William Daniels gave an amazing performance. Well, in the movie he did. I'm glad he turned it down. That was bad Tony decisioning. Yes, decisioning. I know it is not a word. So shut your mouth.
I didn't really think Spamalot was Tony caliber. I think it's a great show but The Light in the Piazza was more deserving. It was just a beautiful show.
And Millie. I don't even care. I saw the revival of Into the Woods that year.
Bryan please give these 3 shows being on CD a rest
It is not happening ever & you are literally beating a dead horse everytime you mention it.

Jerry Herman over Sondheim (1984) *Although La Cage still has a great score
Donna Murphy over Julie Andrews (1995)
Lion King over Ragtime (199
Mel Brooks over David Yazbek (2001) *Mel's songs are delightful and his lyrics are great, but some of them are not entirely original and Keep it Gay is stolen from a number performed on The Mike Douglas Show.
Elaine Stritch At Liberty not counting as an original musical. Couldn't you call it an Elaine Stritch jukebox musical? (2002)
Elaine Stritch not counting in Best Actress (2002)
Elaine Stritch's speech being cut (2002)
Rob Ashford over Susan Stroman (2002)
Into the Woods over Oklahoma! (2002)
Marrisa Jarret Winoker over Bernadette Peters (2003)

Ignore the smiling face by Lion KingRagtime. It won't delete.
Bryan, as I was reading your post, I almost thought you were gonna say Good Vibrations should have goten a Tony nod.
Well, now that I've made sure it's your usual crap...
You are a little off topic my friend.
I absolutely believe that Jersey Boys, John Lloyd Young and Christian Hoff, 100% deserved their awards! I just wish they gave an award to Daniel and J. Robert also.
This show will go down as one of my top 3 shows of all time.
They should have multuple catagories for like they do with the Emmys; one for Drama and one for Comedy. Best Musical, Drama and Best Musical, Comedy...I know that with all of the choices we would be here all night..

From this year only:
- The Pajama Game performance bored me to tears
- Drowsy not winning Best Musical
- LaChanze over Patti was the only Sweeney loss that surprised me
I love sara ramerez, but i dont think she was the best choice out of those who were nominated.
I think that the drowsy chaperone should have won everything that it was nominated for.
Also, i thnk the light in the piazza should have won EVERYTHING, well, should have tied with DRS. Cause they're both fantastic.

Not nominating Maria Friedman for Best Actress (and instead giving the slot to Chita Rivera for who knows why).
