"Since that happened, I don't think the tony's honor real theater anymore. I think The Pajama Game just won just because it had Harry Connick Jr. in it and, was more of a commercial sucess then Sweeney."
No, because Avenue Q won over Wicked - and Wicked was more of a commercial success. Maybe the voters liked how Pajama Game was revived more than they liked how they revived Sweeney!!
Here's one no one mentioned:
Hunter Foster NOT getting nominated for Urinetown
Kerry Butler not being nominated for hairspray.
Yeah you're right you guys. Sorry for sounding whiny. I mean, I have been watching the Tonys for 2 years and should know that by now. Guess that just flew over my head!
I feel like Drowsy Chaperone should've won Best Musical over Jersey Boys. After all, it did win Best Book, Best Costume Design, Best Featured Actress, Best Scenic Design, and Best Score (Score and Book being the most important of the five). Jersey Boys only won Best Actor, Featured Actor, and Lighting Design.
Now I understand how people feel in the whole Light in the Piazza/Spamalot debate (although I think I liked Spamalot better).
I would have liked to see Kelli O'Hara win Best Featured Actress for a Musical.

its fine, i <3 bway. :)
im in love with TL5Y, too! what a great show!
anyhow, my other Tony boo booS, at least to me, are that COLOR PURPLE didnt win more Tonys, and that WEDDING SINGER didnt win best score or get nominated for best set design
What about the very tragic duet of Aretha Franklin and Hugh Jackman? What were they thinking? Oh, and awarding the Tonys to Will Roger Follies.

Into the woods losing to Phantom .

I felt like Pajama Game won just because it had Harry Connick Jr. in in and because it was more commercially sucessful. Pajama Game had a lot of promotion(weren't Connick and O'hara on the View?). It was such a shock because Pajama Game hadn't won Best Revival at other Awards Ceremony's.
This is just my opinion.

Wedding Singer should've gotten at least nominated for Lighting Design.

Pajama Game wasn't even a commercial production, so it couldn't be more or less commercially successful than anything. It was produced by Roundabout and as such was not-for-profit. Sweeney was a commercial production that not only recouped, but turned a profit.

In my opinion, one of the BIGGEST Tony award mistakes was Manoel Felciano's not winning Featured Actor in a Musical. That just upset me. =/

Attend the tale- I agree. I saw noone on this board (or so I think) saying that a guy from JB would win.
Edited for wording.
Lachanze winning kinda confused me after hearing so many critics saying "she plays too long of a time span!" and made a few other jabs about her.

yeah, Manoel really shouldve won
but i bet Christian deserved it too...
oh, and no matter how much i adore Beth, i think Felicia shouldve won best featured actress in a musical
wow, i love this thread! spilling out all of this stuff...stupid Tonys

Can we include drama desks?
If so,
I think Drowsy winning best musical was totally justified,
But Christine Ebersole for grey gardens made me mad.
"Spamalot" winning over DRS. "Ragtime" not winning to LK.
"Mame" not getting best score and Best Musical.

The Light in the Piazza not winning best musical. After seeing the broadcast on PBS my thought after it ened was "It was robbed" and seeing it in person a week later remained the same I even saw Spamalot the next day and while I had a blast at it I thought it wasn't the best show to come out that season.
Sweeney's Lighting Design not being nominated.
Hunter Foster not being nominated for Urinetwon.
