It's actually looking like it may be so. I've never seen the front runners so far ahead. And almost all these choices were also the picks of the critics who've expressed their preferences so far (such as the Times's Brantley and Green.) Of course, public taste and critical taste don't necessarily coincide with Tony voter taste.

Just did the CURSED CHILD marathon yesterday. Boyle was nothing short of amazing and deserves theTony if he wins.

As for Best Play, as much as I enjoyed CURSED CHILD, I would give it to THE CHILDREN.

Obviously to each his/her own opinion, but I am flabbergasted that anyone is picking Anthony Boyle over Nathan Lane. Boyle was great in his role, but Lane was on a completely different level to me. (Still criminal that James McArdle wasn’t nominated.)

I have to disagree, but it’s just a matter of opinion. To be fair, it’s apples and oranges to me. While I thought the technical elements of Harry Potter were totally brilliant, I thought the play itself was mediocre at best, including the performances. (I’m sorry to say that - as a big fan of the HP books I was expecting it to blow me away top to bottom. I thought Boyle played his role well, but I can’t agree with the popular opinion that he stole the show.) Alternately, I’d probably say that Angels in America was the best play I’ve ever seen, but I had gone in with low/nervous expections, only because I’m way more of a musical person and ~8 hours of straight play is intimidating. So I just can’t possibly compare those two performances - to me they’re not anywhere near the same plane of excellence.
