About the featured vs. leading actor/actress comments:
Re: Names above title: This is actually a risky thing to do because if the person over the title is out, tickets must be refunded or exchanged. That is why you see producers putting names below the title, even for "leading" roles.
Was stating Laura Bell Bundy would be considered for lead actress in am musical even necessary?
I never reallu understood why they only had 4 Best Musical spots...but 5 spots for actors.
"yes, because Bundy is billed below the title, which make her eligible as a featured actress. The producers of her show petitioned that she belonged in the leading actress category, and the committee ruled that she did."
im confused what it means to be "billed below the title"
Take GG for example. Christine Ebersole's name is above the title on the poster, so she is "above the title". LBB is not above the title in LB.
I'm assuming the acting categories are pushed to five nominations because there would be more to choose from, pulling from both original shows and revivals. That's my guess. But there used to only be four acting categories. They changed it in 2000. I think that was the first year they had five nominees in each acting category.

I would nominate CORAM BOY's score over CURTAINS' score.
I think the Best Score nominees should be:
GREY GARDENS
SPRING AWAKENING
MARTIN SHORT: FAME BECOMES ME
CORAM BOY

Yes, because if the producers didn't petition that, she would be considered a featured actress since her name isn't above the title.

ok here is a stupid question from me. Raul Esparza is above the title for Company - so if he's not performing tickets are refunded?
I guess if someone complains, they can do that.

Correct. If Raul is out, you can get a refund or an exchange.
It's not like the whole show is canceled though. But if the above-the-title performer is out, you're entitled to get a refund.
Though in the cases of THE BOY FROM OZ, THE APPLE TREE, and star-driven shows, producers prefer to cancel the show when they know the star will be out.

Really? Interesting.
In some ways it's a pretty strange rule, Becoz. You'd think some of these things are obvious but for example I recall Margo saying that when the CHICAGO revival opened, Joel Grey who played Amos was listed above the title, the Weisslers forgot to petition him for the featured category within the deadline and so he was considered leading and hence lost the chance to get a nomination. It's obvious that Amos is a featured role but since Joel Grey--an Oscar and Tony winner-was listed above the tile, he was considered featured for Tony purposes.
If "Raul was out" I would pay double.
What an overated performance.

I missed that, but ok.
thanks for the info, I had been wondering that for awhile.
rayandallthatjazz - I heart your avatar.
It's not just above the title....if you complained about ANY cast absense - above or below- they will refund or exchange your ticket.
Oh, cool. I didn't know that. Thanks munk.
I mean, it's not a written "rule", but it's just basically always honored.
