I agree that they wouldn't do "Oh What A Night" because there's no JLY. He'll almost definitley get a Tony nom., while I doubt Daniel would (unfortunately). I doubt they'd do "Let's Hang On" because it's very short, and Christian Hoff isn't in it (I don't think J. Robert Spencer is either). I think that if they were going to have them sing a group song, they would have all Four Seasons.
I hope they do the "Ballad of Sweeney Todd" for Sweeney. I love "A Little Priest," but the entire cast gets to sing and play in the "Ballad..." There's no Patti showcase though, so that could be a problem.

I'm not sure if "Show Off" will be used for The Drowsy Chaperone. It's really only Sutton, and as she even states, it's an ensemble show. I can actually picture them doing some of the Man in Chair stuff, as that's what the majority of the show really is.
They can do "Toledo Surprise", "I Do, I Do In The Sky", or "My Fancy Dress"; in fact, I'm sure it would be either the first or the second, most likely the second. It opens the show, and although it showscases Georgia Engel's true retardation, it's still a catchy song. :)

Jersey Boys: Who Loves You? (I believe that's the title)
Sweeney Todd: God, That's Good
Color Purple: Hell No

My predictions:
Sweeney Todd: It's possible thay might do A Little Preist, but I think they'd do the Prologue. I'd love to see that.
Threepenny Opera: Mack the Knife
Pajama Game: Hernando's Hideaway or possibly Hey there (showcase Harry Connick Jr.)
The Color Purple: Title song
Jersey Boys: No idea
Drowsy Chaperone: No idea
Tarzan: Not sure, but if they use the same songs from the movie, You'll be in My Heart

Posted: 3/29/06 at 9:45pmI don't think that they'd do Worst Pies. It's not the same type of showstopper in this simplified version...which I actually think is a good thing. While I think the most delightful moment in the revival is "A Little Priest" I think it would make the most sense to do the prologue, though "God that's Good" would make sense as it includes all of the cast as well.

Guys, Sweeney is obviously going to do something to really show off Patti and Michael, especially Patti.
They should definitely do A LITTLE PRIEST. They will have to chop it down , quite a bit. But it would really work. Plus the whole ensemble will be featured, playing the instruments. No one would be left out.
I just can't see them doing the prologue, with Patti in the background basically.

Posted: 3/29/06 at 10:30pmmy guess is that tarzan will pick a number that doesn't involve much flying. I know wicked managed to fly both leading ladies but those rigs aren't real flying rigs. I would be a royal pain to set that all up

Posted: 3/29/06 at 10:31pmi'm pretty confident that the color purple will do the finale reprise. it's the most gorgeous song in the show. has the full ensemble and completely features lachanze, who they'll want to give a showcase hoping she will win lead actress. i will be extremely surprised if this isn't what they go with

Posted: 3/29/06 at 10:55pmI think Sweeney will do God That's Good, because it's an ensemble piece while still giving Miss Perpermint Patti her time to shine!
#35re: Tony Performance prediction
Posted: 3/30/06 at 9:50amI'm gonna make an assumption that PJ Game will do There Once Was a Man, or perhaps Hernando's. If not one of those, a medley.

"Hernando's Hideaway" is a great number but Kelli isn't in it so they should do "There once was a man". Either will be great and get a huge response from the audience.
Ok, so I'm thinking about it alot now lol. Jersey Boys could do "Sherry" and/or "walk like a man" and throw in some dialogue and be great. Or they could do mini versions of their speeches or have JLY do a speech/intro and then go into "who loves you". Oooh I can't wait to see what they come up with!!

My bet is that Tarzan will do Trashin' the Camp. I haven't seen the show yet, so Im just basing this on what I've read on this site. But it shows off those crazy costumes in a fast-paced, fun, melodic number. If they can work some swinging into it at the end, it would sell a gajillion tickets.

Tarzan - Trashing The Camp
The Color Purple - Title Song (or possibly, if on Elizabeth is nominated as featured, What About Love)
The Drowsy Chaperone - Show Off
The Pajama Game - Hernando's Hideaway
Sweeney Todd - As much as I would love A Little Priest, my money is on The opening Attend the Tale, a Medley, or God That's Good.
Jersey Boys - Medley

Posted: 3/30/06 at 2:09pm"Show Off" was by far my favorite part of The Drowsy Chaperone, but I doubt they'll do it, especially if Beth Level gets a nomination.

Posted: 3/30/06 at 2:19pmI bet at least part of Jersey Boys' performance includes Can't Take My Eyes Off of You. I loved loved loved the show and thought JLY was absolutely amazing, especially when he sang that song. I can definetly see them starting with that and going into Walk Like a Man and/or Who Loves You.

Posted: 3/30/06 at 2:30pmI'd love to see TCP maybe do a little bit of Too Beautiful For Words, and segway into What About Love.
#42re: Tony Performance prediction
Posted: 3/30/06 at 3:43pmGod That's Good for Sweeney definately... if not just for the image of Patti playing the tuba.

My Tony Performance prediction is that they will all kind of stink because they are out of context and will seem like mini commercials, be badly edited....
...and the sound will be bad.

I was thinking about this last night and i think The Color Purple should do a Medley. "Mysterious Ways" "Push Da Button" "I'm Here" and "The Color Purple"
Sweeney - One of the ballads of Sweeney probably the first if Manoel gets a nod.
I just noticed this Pajama Game closes on Tony Sunday.

According to a post over at ATC, Pajama Game is doing a one week extension for charity (apparently for Katrina victims -- recall Harry Connick is from New Orleans). Tickets will be $250 - $2500.
I'm sure the Tony producers will make sure that Connick performs on the telecast, for ratings purposes if nothing else. The fact that they're closing so soon, though will hurt them with some voters who see the award primarily as a marketing tool and prefer not to vote for a show that's closed or closing and thus can't use it.

Posted: 3/30/06 at 6:18pmI didn't think of God, That's Good! but that's a perfect song to show off Lupone, Cerveris and Feliciano(sp). Plus, it's a catchy song and sells the cannibilism comedy aspect.

i actually didn't think beforehand that "God, That's Good!" would be the sort of song to use, but now that I think of it, that would be a great Tony performance! I would personally LOVE, though, a shortened version of "A Little Priest" :P
as for TCP, maybe a medley of "Push Da Button" and "The Color Purple"
and for JB, probably just "Who Loves You"
i'm going to make some medleys of these songs on my computer some time...
