So the board is boring tonight. Can we start a potential list of Tony performances for next year?
We can start...
NEW ONES
Legally Blonde
Pirate Queen
Grey Gardens
Spring Awakening
REVIVALS
Company
The Apple Tree can probably be added, as well
I should have been more specific, actual songs/numbers.
Is this what we want to see or what we think it will be?
Because, it all depends on the amount of nominations for each show.
For instance...if COMPANY nabs a great deal of acting and design nominations it may want to go the way of SWEENEY and do a medley...albeit a better one than SWEENEY did.
But, if Raul is the only acting nomination...they may just have him do "Being Alive."
It's a bit too early to tell.

Personally, I'd scrap the idea of a medley for COMPANY. I know they'll want to showcase other nominated performers (should there be any), but I'd rather them do the "Company" reprise immediately preceeding "Being Alive", followed by the abbreviated version of "Being Alive" that you typically hear on solo albums (I'd be all for the full version, but that's likely too long).

Some shows haven't opened, though, and there's no way to gauge what songs are actually part of the score or the show. Thus, I agree that it's still pretty damn early to thread this.

Well The Apple Tree wont be performing...
even if it's nominated for Best Revival.
Because of the Tony rule that the only shows allowed to perform, are shows still running.
so no Apple Tree.

If that were true TheatreGuy, then Rags could not have performed, and it did.

I think the rule was only instituted recently.
Well, I know one thing for sure, I want Capathia up there singing Stop the Show to cap off what had better be a much more exciting evening than last year.

It's a newly instituted rule. It went into effect a few years back - hense only taped clips from Big River and Pacific Overtures.
No, Apple Tree won't extend, unless it's for a very few weeks, because 110 in the Shade has the theater in the early spring.

Curtains should be up and running by then , so chances are they will do a number. Grey Gardens has to do something showcasing Ebersole.

Aren't The Tony awards also include non- musical Broadway plays also? And if I may add, at least those who attend The Tony Awards will be dressed appropiately (unlike those MTV award shows).
My opinion as of right now (without having seen all of the shows, since some haven't started previews yet)
MARY POPPINS - Step in Time
GREY GARDENS - Revolutionary Costume (but if this rule is still in effect, Christine won't be able to perform because I think GG will have closed by then)
PIRATE QUEEN - don't know the songs so can't comment
CURTAINS - don't know the songs so can't comment
MARY POPPINS will win best musical
A CHORUS LINE - One
COMPANY - Being Alive
THE APPLE TREE - I've Got What You Want (but the show will be closed by then)
110 IN THE SHADE - something showcasing Audra McDonald
COMPANY will win best revival.
I would think that Mary Poppins would do "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." That's the real showstopper, and it showcases the whole cast rather than just Gavin Lee.
HERE IS A LIST OF ALL POSSIBLE NOMINEES:
Best New Musical:
- Curtains (pending its opening)
- Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas
- Grey Gardens
- High Fidelity
- Hot Feet (unless it was eligible last year)
- Legally Blonde (pending its opening)
- Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me
- Mary Poppins
- Spring Awakening
- The Pirate Queen (pending its opening)
- The Times They Are A Changin'
Best Revival of a Musical:
- 110 In The Shade (pending its opening)
- A Chorus Line
- Company
- Les Miserables
- The Apple Tree

If they do something from 110 in the Shade and want to do some showcasing of Audra McDonald, it'll be "Is it really me", but maybe they switch within the number to the "Rain song" to have the company join in.
Either way, whatever is gonna be performed at the Tony's, there's gonna be brillant songs, it'll be a good year
Somethingwicked: you are probably correct about "Supercali..."
Does anybody think that Grinch will be consittered Special Theatrical event? Its a limited engagement with a crazy schedrule?
If I were on the committee, I would deem Grinch in the Best Musical category. Limited engagements shouldn't matter. If they did, look at all the musicals in the past that would have never been nominated...
Trace--GG is NOT NOT NOT going to close before the Tonys. It's just not going to happen. :P
JRB, I really hope you're right about that. The show deserves to have a run.
