Jeez, I don't understand how. I can't even remember anything Colella did apart from her solo and even that was just sung nicely. Jones isn't my choice either but between the two there's no comparison.

I agree. I'm still pulling for SJB (however unlikely it is), but if she doesn't win I think the only actress deserving it over her would be RBJ.

In fairness to Greif, he could be winning purely for ''Dear Evan Hansen,'' but it could be a career award, too: This'll be his 4th Tony nomination over 2 decades. Besides ''Rent,'' he also directed ''Grey Gardens'' and ''Next to Normal.'' Plus, he directed ''War Paint''!

Yes, it's neck-and-neck for Featured Actress in a Musical: 8 experts at GoldDerby.com are predicting Colella; another 8 at predicting Jones. Just 1 is going with Block. ... For the record, Colella won Featured Actress from the Outer Critics and Drama Desk this year; Jones wasn't nominated by the Outer Critics last year, but she did get a nomination from the Drama Desk (but lost).

The Tonys are the first time these two go head-to-head.

I don't like the idea of people getting a career Tony, particularly when there's someone there who has so obviously done superior work. Surely that's what the special, non-competitive Tonys are for. I like Greif and his work, but to me DEH is his weakest and Chavkin's work is some of the best direction we've seen in recent years. And as theater_tech said, it really wouldn't be a good look to award a man for inferior work when there's a female director - who rarely get this level of recognition - right there doing extraordinary work.

That's the tricky thing about awards: ''Best'' is so subjective. I imagine there are ''Rent''-heads who thought Greif did his best work for that show, and got robbed by George C. Wolfe (''Bring in da Funk'' ), or ''Next to Normal'' supporters who thought Grief should've won instead of Stephen Daldry (''Billy Elliot'' ). And I'll bet there are plenty of ''Dear Evan Hansen'' devotees who would swear that Greif deserves the Tony much more than Chavkin. And so it goes.

To open another discussion – I think another very close call is Set Design for a Play, between The Play That Goes Wrong and Jitney. I personally think that TPTGW deserves it (plus I just want to see it win something, as it was otherwise shut out by all the dramatic shows this year), but I just have a feeling it's going to end up going to the latter.

I had a miserable time at The Play That Goes Wrong, but the set deserves to win. It's a masterpiece of construction, and what impressed me about it was that it wasn't readily apparent how tremendously the thing would come to pieces. I think in lesser hands the seams would have shown a bit here or there, but you can't really tell until the effects happen. The Jitney set was fine and nicely detailed, but I don't know if it is memorable enough to win.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I think the Tonys will spread the wealth. ... As for ''The Play That Goes Wrong,'' it did win the Drama Desk for Scenic Design, but its membership had seen the show. But you can't tell with the Tony voters. How many of them caught a show with only 1 nomination? Especially among out-of-town Tony voters with limited time? ... Sometimes, if the voters love a certain show, they'll just vote a straight ticket. ... Tony voters are asked NOT to vote in any category in which they haven't seen ALL the nominees. (Yeah, sure!)

Froote: At GoldDerby.com, I'm one of 11 out of 17 experts predicting Chavkin, but if ''Evan Hansen'' is on a roll, Greif could win.

Theater Tech, as you can see, I'm predicting ''Great Comet'' for Costumes, but I, too, am surprised at how many GoldDerby experts are picking ''Hello, Dolly!'': ( 9 out of 17 ). ''Great Comet'' and ''War Paint'' tie with 4 apiece. If ''Comet'' loses, I could see it going to ''War Paint,'' which just won the Drama Desk for Costume Design.

By the way, I just saw the results of the 2017 Theater Fans' Choice Awards, presented by BroadwayWorld and BroadwayHD. There, ''The Great Comet'' won for Costumes, plus Scenic Design, Lighting, Sound and Featured Actor in a Musical (Lucas Steele).

Note to Froote: Looks like the ''Dear Evan Hansen'' fans made their presence felt at the Theater Fans' Choice Awards. ''Dear Evan Hansen'' won 6 categories, including Best Director!

Yes, the only contender I could see Comet losing to is War Paint. It is to be noted that Comet was not eligible for a nomination for that Drama Desk though (Paloma Young was nominated, but it was for Bandstand).

Theater Tech: Yes, I'm aware that ''Comet'' was not nominated for Costumes this season. But it won everything it was nominated for: Direction (tying with ''Band's Visit'' ), Sets, Lighting, Sound. (For what it's worth, I'm a veteran Drama Desk voter of many years.)

Its Allready been decided. Evan Hansen raised all their prices last week. what does that tell you ? They were given the word. You must realize, nobody can keep their mouths shut anymore. Come From Away has absolutely no advance, what does that tell you? Its rigged like everything else in our society. Better get used to it, cause it aint gonna stop. Hey, maybe you and your friends can put on a show about how everything is rigged and call it " Aint Gonna Stop " Cmon Bros Get Real

CFA does have a decent advance, but DEH raising prices certainly seems to indicate they believe they are winning, and they probably will. Politics.

I'm a Hansen fan, and I absolutely think Chavkin should win. Her work with Great Comet is astounding.

I truly loved DEH and was underwhelmed by Comet, but I still think Chavkin deserved best direction.

Long time lurker, here.

I'm also a huge Hansen fan, but I'm also a huge Comet fan. I'm really rooting for both of them. Chavkin is ridiculously deserving of this award. Her work is absolutely gorgeous and it would be great to see a woman win in a largely male profession.

I am hoping to see DEH win best musical over CFA, a show that I found to be cute and uplifting, but far too sentimental and the writing is nowhere near as strong as DEH or TGC. I wish that TGC were more in the running for best musical. I also hope to see Malloy win score and orchestrations.

Lala Land cured my insomnia. It's not that the concept is bad. it's just it's way style over substance plus the fact that both Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling CAN'T SING.

I believe DEH raised the prices because the producers were only PREDICTING the win, or just bluffing. It's ridiculous to say they "were given the word" since the voting didn't end till 6pm this friday.
