Come From Away is La La Land- the sweet, pretty, nice, fun, lovable show, and there's nothing wrong with that. DEH is Moonlight- the emotional, cathartic, beautiful show. It all comes down to personal preference.

Jeez, I don't understand how. I can't even remember anything Colella did apart from her solo and even that was just sung nicely. Jones isn't my choice either but between the two there's no comparison.

I agree. I'm still pulling for SJB (however unlikely it is), but if she doesn't win I think the only actress deserving it over her would be RBJ.

"

Or could Block pull an Idina Menzel and come through to take it, assuming Jones and Coella split the vote?

dianamorales, if we're being technical I think Comet has more in common with Moonlight than DEH. Comet is narratively and structurally unique. A true ensemble piece. But that doesn't really matter because Comet probably has no chance at taking Best Musical. Haha. I like your thinking though, and would rather see a show like DEH take it over CFA (even though I REALLY want it go to Comet).

Plus Comet and Moonlight make my heart happy whereas all the other things do not. Tony Prediction Close Calls But I think Moonlight snatching Best Picture out of nowhere is all the award show luck I'm going to get this year. At least I know Comet will be brought up in those 'what should have won the Tony' threads in the future along with the robbed Next to Normal.

As much as I'm rooting for COME FROM AWAY, I'd be very satisfied if CFA & DEH tied for Best Musical. It seems that close.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I don't disagree with the comparison generally, but I think both La La Land and CFA have more meaning than they're generally given credit for, and DEH is unlike Moonlight precisely because the sense of catharsis that is present in Moonlight is sorely lacking in DEH. (And also DEH is the favourite, even now).

I don't think either show can be compared to La La Land or Moonlight, and to be honest I'm not really sure why that comparison is being made to begin with.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Why are you assuming that The Band's Visit won't be next year's big favorite?

Jitney is Moonlight because they both feature André Holland in an underappreciated performance. Next!

I meant in terms of tone and size and scope.

Well done, froote. He deserves so much acknowledgement.

Brantley just did who will win/should win predictions and I'm sorry, but is he completely insane? I don't understand why, this far into the game, he is still predicting Peil. She has never had any momentum behind her and never will. As a journalist, you would think he would be publishing unbiased opinions and giving actual, realistic predictions. I love Peil too, but that doesn't make her the frontrunner.
