(Chita Rivera, Bernadette Peters, Angela Lansbury, Mary Martin, Lynn Redgrave)
Guess how many Tony Nominations these 5 have all together? 30!
I would be interested in anyone's opinions/thoughts about a snub (for a nomination or a win) that you don't get or that irks you even if it was in the 60's or something.
I'm also wondering if there are any Broadway gals past and present that were never recognized by the Tony Committee(or not yet anyway) despite having acclaim. Anyone come to mind for you that fits this?
(again - just interested in da ladies (who lunch?) XD
There are great lists on Wikipedia of all the winners/nominees if you want to jolt your memory - Happy Tony Season x

Bernadette in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
Bernadette in GYPSY
Bernadette in NIGHT MUSIC (they should have started the replacement Tony category for her and Mazzie in NEXT TO NORMAL :P)
Bernadette in FOLLIES (it's an inevitability)
I sense a trend..

I think people are confused. A snub is when a performer is ignored by the Academy/Committee/what-have-you. Thus, people like Esparza in "Company" or Peters in "Gypsy" or Pinkins in "Caroline, or Change" don't qualify 'cause they were nominated. They just didn't win. Perhaps the subject title should be changed to "Tony Losses That Bother you?" or actually list actors who gave good performances but were not nominated.

nah it's OK I said for a nomination or a win. so saying Bernadette should have won is fine (love you Bernie fangirlsxo). I'd like to hear more about those who have *never* been nominated though.
oh and why are people posting men? Actresses only please. lol

Posted: 4/16/12 at 12:26pmI think that Elaine Stritch should have been recognized for her work long before her one woman show. She was definitely snubbed for Show Boat in 1995 (not even nominated). She should have taken a Tony for Joanne in Company and possibly for Claire in the revival of A Perfect Balance.

BARBARA COOK's Amalia AND BARBARA BAXLEY's Ilona in SHE LOVES ME - I didn't see it (not quite that old) but can someone please explain why either were not nominated for these legendary performances in signature roles?
Laura Benanti in NINE (not nominated)
Susan Egan and Nancy Opel in TRIUMPH OF LOVE (not nominated)
Patti Lupone in SWEENEY TODD (should have won)
Kelli O'Hara in SOUTH PACIFIC (should have won and might have if Lupone would have rightfully won for SWEENEY TODD)

Okay They are not actresses .. however
I think Daniel Radcliffe should have been nominated for How to succeed.
I mean a year earlier the mediocre Catherine Zeta Jones was nominated and won in a "pro movie star year"
And Daniel got "an anti movie star year".
I also felt that Aaron Tveit got a raw deal from the Tony's regarding Catch me If you can for not being nominated.
Aaron and Daniel both carried their shows. it was not Aaron's fault his show was poorly written and asked him to narrate, entertain us and play with our heart stings at the same time.
Also way back when when Big was on, it wasn't a perfect show like Catch me if you can but the lead Daniel Jenkins wasn't nominated. He
was terrific. The show was likable but did have ugly sets.
I think its hard to differentiate great performances from mediocre shows.

Elaine Stritch was recognized fairly early on actually. She was nominated in 1956 for Best Featured Actress - Play for 'Bus Stop' She was born in 1925 so in 56' she would have been 31.
She understudied Ethel Merman in 'Call Me Madam' in the early 50's and then played Merman's Tony winning role on tour.
That being said -
Her first Broadway appearance was in 1946 though - 10 years earlier. when she was 21. I don't know...took her awhile to get there but she did :)
