If you could only pick 3 to have, which 3 would it be?
My choices would be....
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Sweeny Todd
(and to some of you, this may not count) Camp
My Fair Lady
Sweeny Todd
Oliver (I just can't get over how cute that kid is.)
I'm probably forgetting something here...you might hear from me again.
cabaret
hair
little shop
rocky horror
-Hey, Mr Producer!
-Fosse
-Les miserables 10th anniversary
the music man with kristin chenoweth
chicago
and phantom when it comes out on dvd!!!
My Fair Lady
Into the Woods
Les Miserables 10th Anniversary
How is the sound and picture quality of the Les Mis Tenth Aniversary DVD? I might give that a watch.
Into the Woods
Les Mis 10th anni
Fosse
I love Camp though, but it isn't in my top 3
I have the 10th Anniversary Concert on tape and the sound and picture are fine. I was watching it all last week. Hehe. Love the cast.
Agree with My Fair Lady's choices. But throw in Sweeney Todd.

Its really good, but I want to warn you that it's just singing
The cast is really good, but I don't like the little girl who plays young cosette she has.. doesn't really get into character

It's not just her teeth that are distracting you?
hehe
of course it's just singing!
3) West Side Story (special edition anniversary DVD)
2) The Sound of Music
1) Broadway: the American Musical DVD (the book and 5 CD set should be purchased with the DVD as well...they are all WONDERFUL to say the least!)
1) Sweeney Todd
2) Sunday in the Park with George
3) Into the Woods
Honourable Mentions: Passion, Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall, Company: Original Cast Album, Follies in Concert, West Side Story, Sweeney Todd in Concert, Broadway: The Golden Age, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver!, Fosse, Cabaret
"the music man with kristin chenoweth" is an essential DVD? The biggest piece of crap musical remake in years? Oy!
1. Sweeney Todd (Hearn/Landsbury)
2. Sunday In The Park With George
3. West Side Story
For non musical productions I would also add to this list Broadway: The Golden Age and Broadway: the American Musical.
I totally agree PAB. As much as I LOVE, LOVE Cheno, the remake was awful. Matthew spoke almost everything which he was supposed to sing and I was surprised since he did such a great singing job in The Producers. Cheno was good but so overly cheesy. This remake was painful to sit through to say the least.
The entire fault of that remake of The Music Man lies with the casting director who deserves to never work again.
1. The Sound of Music
2. Into the Woods
3. Oliver!
Other top DVDs: Sunday in the Park with George, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Carousel, Cabaret.
1)Funny Girl
2)Passion
3)The Sound Of Music
Honorable mentiones: The King And I, Into The Woods, Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, A Star Is Born, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I can't believe that no one has mentioned Hedwig and the Angry Inch yet. That would be at the very top of my list.
My other two? Hair and The Sound of Music.
i can't believe iu forgot hedwg and west side story! Wait now my list is way more than three!
i think most on the board are having trouble narrowing it down to 3 (it is hard), but i'll stick to these three since that's what you asked for:
1. WEST SIDE STORY (Special Edition 2-Disc Set)
2. THE SOUND OF MUSIC (Widescreen 2-Disc Set)
3. This one was up for grabs (in my book), but I chose:
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (2-Disc Special Edition) - one of the best original movie musicals ever made.
