I wonder if this will be in the same vein as Girl from the North Country. Bleak and somber.

I am not a fan of Jukebox musicals but I have seen seen around 20 1/2 since the 70's. (I left at intermission for one) I paid to see 4 of them. I LOVED "Girl From the North Country" and may have liked "...North Country" the most because I was only familiar with 2 songs in the show so, for me, it was like hearing an original score. I am just not interested in spending money to see a show with music that I have had for years in my personal library. That's just me.
I am a huge James Taylor fan. Reading that this will have an original story makes me want to see it. Glad it isn't a bio type musical. I just hope it is a good story. I like both Letts' and Cromer's work so I am hoping this will be good! This, I will pay to see. JMO

With Nederlander producing and the two having the Steppenwolf connection this will probably premiere with Broadway in Chicago.

James Taylor is definitely an artist I appreciate very much, but never loved, and I’m an over the jukebox musical trend. But there’s no collaboration more likely to get me to buy tickets than Letts and Cromer.

Letts appeared last month on Marc Maron's podcast and they briefly discussed the musical about halfway in.
He mentioned both The Girl from North Country and Mamma Mia as reference points for the new show in that they use an act's catalogue of music to support other stories. He said he and Taylor thought they had it ready for workshops, but producers told them it was still a bit too dark and needed to be more uplifting.

Hiring Tracy Letts and telling him to make the story more uplifting is like hiring Mel Brooks to adapt The Bell Jar.
