Posted: 7/9/10 at 12:10pmI wonder what this will mean for Brandon Victor Dixon now. Will he just bide his time for 9 months, or will The Scottsboro boys welcome him back?

"Logistical reasons?"
Does this mean Race is extending or something? Because it also says it will open in Spring 2011 "at a Shubert theatre to be announced." So it may not get the Barrymore now? Weird.

Is a transfer of The Orphans' Home Cycle officially dead in the water? Because the Barrymore would be a good home for it.
Barring an extension of Race (please no), it looks like we can look forward to a 12-week play revival starring someone famous for the fall.

Oh, so true.
And yes, "logistical reasons" sound like he needs more time lining up the finances.

Posted: 7/9/10 at 2:25pmIf attendance at last Saturday's matinee is an indicator, I doubt Race will extend. But, I do have to say that it was one crazy-a$$ stage door! I hadn't been knocked about and pushed around so much since Equus.

Posted: 7/9/10 at 2:40pm"Logistical reasons" is code for "We can't raise the money". Kinda like the logistical delays behind For Colored Girls..., Godspell, and (possibly) Spider-Man. Question: could BVD now sue for a zillion dollars or are performers' contracts cleverly written around such "logistical reasons"? Inquiring minds want to speculate irresponsibly!

Posted: 7/9/10 at 10:58pmDoes anyone think that Godspell could take the theater, and force Unchain My Heart to look for a new theater? It was announced for this upcoming season, but nothing more. If it does happen, I hope Gavin Creel and Diana DeGarmo are still attached to the production.

The "logistical delays" are actually referring to the fact that Shelton Epps, the director for the show, now has to take an extended amount of time to supervise the fall re-launch of the Pasadena Playhouse, where he's artistic director.
The California court didn't approve the financial re-organization plan that's allowing the Playhouse to re-open until Wednesday, so this has all happened extremely fast. There are no funding problems for the production itself.

Posted: 7/10/10 at 1:52pmYes, thanks, somethingwicked. Howsoever, some of us are suspicious types and still think there is more to this postponement than "logistics". It'll be interesting to see what becomes of Unchain My Heart. Meanwhile, if I were BVD I'd be #*%^in' mad to have lost on out a good role in a show that evidently IS coming to Broadway. Just my uninformed $.02.
