Curious.  With the right director, Thurman is wonderful.

We'll see. I hope she's got that nasty peanut allergy under control.

I like Uma, I'm just not sure how well her charms will translate to the stage. The play sounds cool.

Wondering which theater this could go in. The Booth is available, but I know Steve Martin is looking for a place for his play and I'm sure he'd love that theater. Maybe The Nederlander. I believe 1984 closes in October, so there is the Hudson.

Thurman appeared in a production (adaptation, really) of THE MISANTHROPE at CSC about 20 years ago, when she was really at the height of her fame. (It was an impossible ticket, sold out before the first performance.) I saw it and thought she more than held her own against some very experienced stage actors (Michael Emerson, Mary Lou Rosato, and the late Roger Rees in the title role). Of course, that was some years ago, in a small Off-Broadway theater; how she'll translate to a larger Broadway house after years of not working onstage remains to be seen. But I think she has the chops to deliver a solid performance.

Damn, who says Smash was an unsuccessful television show? Here we are still referencing it five years later. As Claire Zachanassian says in The Visit: "I'm unkillable."

I saw this when it had it's world premiere at South Coast Rep in California in 2013. Dana Delany played the lead role. It was a good, not great play but a lot of fun. Not sure it's meaty enough to command premium prices. The lead role really calls for a seductress who exudes effortless sexuality. Delany was perfect for that role. Thurman is a great actress but I'm not seeing her in this role at all.

Mark my words, in 100 years Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton will be forgotten and...:

* The most performed musical for high schools will be Bombshell!,
* Hit List will be restaged on Broadway every year - each time with a completely new story line and libretto.
* People will throw 21st Century parties where everyone wears scarves and drinks kale and flax seed smoothies. The only acceptable excuse for not attending will be to reply "I'm in tech!"
* The most popular name for baby boys will be "Ellis".

Well, then she's a great actress who will be paired with a great director, which generally turns out pretty well.

I guess we disagree, and strongly. This sounds more like a role for Uma than Dana to me.

That's fine. I never said people couldn't disagree and I wasn't looking for validation or other people to agree with me, just stating what I felt.  Having said that, the implication of your comment suggests you don't think Dana would be a great fit for the role.  You're just speculating how she might be whereas I've actually seen her perform the role and read the excellent reviews of her performance but again, you're certainly entitled to think what you want.

You can say a lot of things about Uma Thurman and her acting, but a "seductress who exudes effortless sexuality" is normally the kind of role that I would say is right in her wheelhouse.

I like Dana very much, Uncle Charlie, and I don't question your opinion. Uma has usually been cast along more seductive lines than Dana. That's all I meant to imply.

^ No worries. Everyone's entitled to an opinion and even if 2 people disagree, it doesn't mean either of them is wrong. Admittedly Uma is a bit higher profile than Dana and has probably had more of an opportunity at "juicier" roles" over the years. But Dana knows what to do with one when she gets it.
