Posted: 3/14/13 at 1:40amOh, the view from the second row is MORE than great. You get quite the view of the actors and, in certain cases, what they have to offer...

I got a TDF ticket for Tuesday night's show. Rear Mezz row C. The show plays beautifully up there.
I've been a Durang fan for most of my life, and it was thrilling to see this piece (which I consider his masterwork) performed by three performers whose careers have been linked to Durang for a long time. The show is deeply funny, but also penetrating and insightful. The acting across the board is sensational, and the staging is perfect.
Some spoilers. I had heard a great deal about Kristine Nielsen's monologue, and it really is an extraordinary thing to behold. It's probably the highest tightrope I've seen an actor walk...astoundingly funny and immensely moving at the exact same time. But I was in no way prepared for her Maggie Smith impression. I couldn't stop laughing. And David Hyde Pierce's monologue was not only a tour de force, but it hit me personally. A couple of years ago, I did a one man show about Disney star Tommy Kirk and how he was my first crush and how awful it was to find out how terribly he'd been treated by Walt Disney because he was gay. It was a small act to try to reclaim one of my own and bring his story to the world. I mean...the 100 people who saw the show, I should say. And then to sit in a Broadway house and hear Christopher Durang do the same thing but writ large...it was beyond satisfying. It was a triumph of reclamation.
What an extraordinary evening in the theater. Go.

Posted: 3/14/13 at 11:39amWalked by the theatre today hoping to rush Kinky Boots, and stopped in to ask if they had any Youth Rush tickets available even though it's opening night. The Box Office lady was really really nice, and said she couldn't believe it, but they had just a hand full for the rear mezzanine. I happily bought it, now I can't wait! It will be my first opening night show on Broadway!

No shame. Saving that photo.
I cannot wait to see this show. The word of mouth on the board has me totally convinced.

Posted: 3/14/13 at 5:34pmSaw yesterday's matinee- will be a big hit- absolutely hysterical and perfect casting, timing and writing. Genuine love for the play from the audience with long standing ovation. Would definitely go back. Tony time for Kristine.

Thought the play was the slightest piece of nothing I've seen in years. Cast was blah and for most part doing the smae thing they've been doing for too long.
Ugh.

Posted: 3/15/13 at 6:46amOh dear, I was planning on seeing "The Nance". Now, I'm tempted to see "V.S.M.S." Also, I had thought of seeing "Ann" (if it lasts till June). So, that would be three plays and two musicals for my trip. Wow. from RC in Austin, Texas

Patti,
If you have limited time, I recommend Ann and VSMS. Put The Nance in the bottom of your short list.
