Posted: 2/24/09 at 12:17pmI don't know what the Jet Girls wore before, but their costumes did not seem as bad as the guys. The Sharks costumes, especially the girls, look great.

Posted: 2/24/09 at 12:47pmYeah.. not sure if that's much of an improvement. Most of our issues were with the skirt/dress length, IIRC, and that seems to be the same.

Whizzer said he didn't know what they looked like, so he couldn't say if they changed, so those are the DC dresses

Everything seems "brilliant" and "stunning", including STORY OF MY LIFE. I'd love to know what you put on the other end of that spectrum. Thanks in advance.

Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:00pmI asked in another thread, but didn't get an answer, so I'll try here. Is there rush during previews?
#81re: WEST SIDE STORY first preview tonight; reviews??
Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:05pmIs the song really called "Siento Hermosa"? That makes no sense in Spanish, it's missing the noun!

Insider2, the top three shows I *despised* were PASSING STRANGE, SPRING AWAKENING, and SPELLING BEE.
Other shows I have hated included, Shrek, Guys and Dolls current revival, Good Vibrations, The Times They Are A Changin', Lennon, All Shook Up, Lestat, Glory Days, A Catered Affair, Cry Baby, the off broadway Frankenstein, the last Grease revival, Xanadu, The Pirate Queen, Martin Short Fame Becomes Me, The Wedding Singer, Hot Feet, The Threepenny Opera recent revival, Ring of Fire, In My Life, Pacific Overtures recent revival
Sorry...I went a bit overboard with my list...

Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:17pmHow could you hate Xanadu! It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo good! And so was Spelling Bee! But I'll give you the others. I still listen to "Passing Strange," trying to hear what everyone else hears, but the music is just not my cup of tea.

Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:20pmOoops. Something tells me I just veered this thread way off topic. Sorry for that. More discussion about West Side Story please.

My friendship with Jaystarr almost ended with our differing opinions on Xanadu, so I won't dredge that up again here...
To me, Spelling Bee was just a bunch of nerdy ugly kids moping around on stage doing their little tricks to try and spell words. I didn't find any of it funny...just wasn't my type of show I guess...and "MUE" was just tasteless.
This is why Broadway is such a great thing for NY...there is something for everyone.

Eek! Just wait until he starts trashing a show!

Oh, that one is nothing! You prety much said that camel crap smelled like roses compared to Xanadu and Passing Strange and anyone who liked those was crazy!
Anyhow, back to WSS...

HA. No wonder Jay and I got into a fight...
I still find it hard to believe that anyone could like Xanadu and Passing Strange...critics and regular audience members alike.
Thankfully, we will all be in agreement on WEST SIDE STORY. The audience last night *loved* it, and I'm sure it will get positive notices from all the critics.

Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:38pmUgh, "Siento Hermosa"? I hate it when a show or movie attempt to include Spanish and in the process they end up butchering the language and they don't care since they figure nobody will notice. Can they do it right? The title should be "Me Siento Hermosa," just like in English you don't say "Feel Pretty," the correct title is "I Feel Pretty." I hope the rest of the Spanish is correct and not an Anglo version of Spanish. That's another reason why I'm worried about a Spanish "A Boy Like That," the English lyrics are so perfect, I hope the Spanish lyrics match and do not butcher the language.

Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:46pmTell that to Lin-Manuel Miranda who wrote the spanish lyrics.
#94re: WEST SIDE STORY first preview tonight; reviews??
Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:47pmYes, I can't believe that whoever translated that didn't include a noun - that's just dumb!
#95re: WEST SIDE STORY first preview tonight; reviews??
Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:47pmI thought the Spanish lyrics were fantastic (i'm not fluent in the language though).

I'm not fluent in Spanish (in fact, don't know any) I do know this. Italian and Spanish are very similar and it is common to leave off the noun. It sounds weird when you do a literal translation, but its not incorrect in that language...

Posted: 2/24/09 at 3:50pmNo, love, I can tell you in my perfect Spanish that "Siento hermosa" makes no sense whatsoever.

TE sientes hermosa - You feel pretty
TE siento hermosa - I feel you pretty
ME siento hermosa- I feel pretty
LA siento hermosa- I feel her/it pretty
Siento hermosa - nonsense
