So now that WICKED has been publicized as going on tour, who do you think will be cast in the plum roles of Elphaba & G(a)linda?
I personally think it won't be easy to find someone for G(a)linda, given the trail blazed by the one and only Cheno. You need someone that can go from coloratura to belting, and a strong comedienne.
That's not to say that Elphaba will be easy to find, either. You need someone that can belt in the same styles as Eden and Idina.
I can't even think of any actresses (star-names or otherwise) that could fill these big shoes!

Soshana Bean as Elphaba
I actually think Galinda will be the easier role to cast. It will be intersesting to see how this show travels. Not my favortie show. but a touring edition has my curiosity.

Denise Summerford (ensemble of Taboo and Rocky Horror) as Elphaba
Diana Kaarina (Millie tour, Les Mis) as Glinda
I for one do not want to see people trying to copy someone elses style of acting unless they are an understudy. I have long felt that the only way that there is bad art is when someone trys to imitate other's art. Besides, most of the people that see it on tour aren't going to have seen the original, and are not going to care.

Diana Karrina would be a fantastic Galinda

A Galinda has been cast I believe.... Updated On: 7/11/04 at 02:54 AM
I'd like to see Diana Kaarina do it, as well, partially because that's sort of how her Eponine was turning into towards the end of her run on the tour...
This might be a tad insane, but Maggie Benjamin could sing the sh*t out of "Defying Gravity." Of course, I've only seen her as Maureen, so I'm not sure how good a guage of her talent I am.
(That's not a slight against her in any way.)
Diana Kaarina IS awesome. She's still the best Eponine I've seen.
I just saw Diana Kaarina as Miss Dorothy last week, and while I found her to be a tad annoying, I can see her as Glinda. However, how high is her soprano? Could she do the highest notes? I hope so! If so,I would be thrilled to see her.
I don't think WICKED will tour well at all. The highlight of the show is obviously the design aspect and with that toned down from 15 million to 15 thousand, there's not much left except the writing which we can all agree no matter how much we like or hate it that it's not the best thing ever written... I hope Stephen, at least, makes some lyrical revisions... after that, yes, it's up to the two girls to force the whole thing to work.

Supposedly Kendra Kassebaum has been cast as Glinda.

well that is better than being stuck as Mark's Mom in Rent for the next 50 years.......
I'm so glad you think RENT is gonna run another 50 years!!! Whoo Hoo!!!!!
Musetta, I ADORE Maggie Benjamin and would love to see her in the role.
I don't think maggie has the range for Elphaba.
have you heard her sing anything that's in that range? Her performance in Rent was the closest to Idina's that I've seen. Elphaba doesn't go much highter/lower than Maureen does. I think she could do it.
Jennifer Cody should be Glinda. Except I've never heard her colarutta (sp?)
yeah i've seen her in rent. Her voice isn't as high as Idina's. She pushes it up there. I think it would be hard for her to hold the notes in "the wizard and I" and "for good".

>> Elphaba & G(a)linda?
Hmm. Roseanna Barr and Meryl Streep. They'd certainly bring a certain panache to the produciton, not to mention high marketability. :)
Sean, are you suggesting that Roseanne should be Elphaba and Meryl should be Galinda? Because that is a HORRIBLE idea. Now, Meryl as Elphaba and Roseanne as Galinda...
how about stephanie d'abruzzio (sp?) from avenue q for glinda
i'd say Stepanie j. Block as elphaba but i have a feeling she'll end up replacing idina on b'way whenever she decides to leave
I want to see Julia Murney play Elphaba, so I don't want her to tour, lol....and I don't think she would tour. but she'd be amazing in the role.
And for those of you who say Jen Cody....I don't think she can sing it.

Diana as Galinda!!!!! I saw her in Les Mis twice! She's my third favorite performer. I would pay to see her in ANYTHING!
