People like BrodyFosse and A Director/BertAndrew like to practice "Facile Cynicism" or "Knee-Jerk Negativity."
You simply log onto an Internet chat board, enter a thread in which posters are sharing their enthusiasm and proceed to post negative opinions as if they were facts.
The Facile Cynic THINKS that these negative opinions are "smarter" than everyone else's, which of course is not at all true, and that it's fun to deflate the enthusiasm that was being shared.
Inevitably what happens is that the Facile Cynic is simply thought of as a "creep" or an "asShole."
This generally extends into real life, as the Facile Cynic enters conversations at cocktail parties or dinners and proceeds to deliver his or her knee-jerk negative pronouncements, always expecting to be thought of as "brilliant," which, sadly, never occurs.
Facile Cynics tend to be chronically friendless and prematurely bitter.
They are, in the words of the old song, more to be pitied than censured.
