Was There Ever Talk of a Spring Awakening Movie?

I saw the show last night and I loved it! I could not help but think that it could make a fantastic transition to the screen. There is an IMDB page for it but it has very little information. It's probably just a formality. Was this ever talked about? I think it could be a big success with the right cast and director. Any thoughts?

I think there was a whisper of it in 2010-11 but nothing has come up since.

Last I heard was that they're still planning it with McG (Charlie's Angels, We Are Marshall, Terminator Salvation, This Means War, Three Days to Kill) at the helm...

Though I personally think Marc Webb would be a much better (and actually good) choice for the position.

I think Spike Lee could a good job with this, after all, he was considered for RENT and instead we got Chris Columbus. God that was a really poor choice...

^ And having seen the script Spike Lee was reportedly ready to film (with Rob Marshall reportedly choreographing), may I simply say it was such a wasted opportunity.

Can you discuss the script you read? I'm interested in hearing about it! I was incredibly bummed out with the film version of RENT. Spike Lee would have been a fantastic choice!

How old do you think they'll cast them? I certainly can't see them casting actual age-appropriate people (would they even be allowed??).

I read somewhere that an actress has to be at least 18 to play Welnda (sp? Sorry I'm tired).

I'd imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to find 18 year-olds who are believable as 14.

They could have 18-19 year olds who could play 15-17 maybe... 14 would be stretching it. (other movies have stretched ages far worse)

Yes, they've been talking about it since about 2008. I doubt we'll ever see it. Nothing has ever come of the "talk".

I'm sure when the time comes it'll hit the screens. I would imagine it wouldn't be a full blown 10million+ production, though. I'd imagine it would be on the scale of the upcoming Last Five Years film.
