Jeff Daniels Bryan Cranston Jeremy Pope Paddy from the Ferryman (last name is escaping me) Ethan Hawks Adam Driver Michael Urie Nathan Lane Bertie Carvel maybe?
Pretty stacked potentially. Should be a very interesting race"
I'd also include Lucas Hedges in there. John Lithgow is also always a Tony favorite.

I agree Lucas was amazing. Replace Bertie with Lucas!
Is Lydia (Sofia Anne Caruso) a leading or featured role in Beetlejuice?
Does she have a shot at a nomination? She's such an incredible performer and she has such a unique voice, (I'd understand) but hate to see her get overlooked in such a packed season.

I could be wrong, but I'm assuming that Lucas will be considered Featured, not Lead.
They might put Hedges in featured to give him a better shot, but otherwise I would assume leading. Hes a big name celebrity above the title, playing the narrator/protagonist character. The story is being told through his eyes, and hes a stand-in for the author - much like Tom in Glass Menagerie.
That said, I dont think hell be nominated at all because IMO has was far and away the weakest link in that cast. He was consistently being out-acted by his co-stars at virtually every turn. Not to mention the competition hes facing from other shows. The only scenario in which I can see him getting nominated is if they put him in featured, but I dont think they should or will.
Are Paddy and the other acting nominees from The Ferryman going to be forgotten about since a new cast is coming in? Have actors been nominated when they have been replaced come tony time? The only ones I can think of is Madeline Kahn in Twentieth Century, and Jonathan Groff in Hamilton.

Tony Shalhoub won, after taking a hiatus starting 3/1/18, although he did perform for voters at some performances in May.

I have to assume she'll be considered as lead, but as you said.. it's not a guarantee this season.
I think Kelli O'Hara and Stephanie J. Block are the two absolute locks, as well as Beth Leavel (if she's considered leading). Eva Noblezada and Rebecca Naomi Jones will probably round out the category on the strength of their critically acclaimed shows... though I'd love to see Caitlin Kinnunen somehow sneak in there.
That said, Beetlejuice obviously hasn't opened yet, and it sounds like they're making a lot of changes, so who knows! It could open to raves, in which case that changes this whole landscape.
They announced some new rulings. Stephanie J.Block is obviously leading, Micaela and Teal are featured. Beth, Brooks, and Caitlin are all leads for the prom
If a Girl From The North Country doesn't transfer, which it feels like at this point it won't be at least until next season, are then assuming these 4 for musical?
TOOTSIE
HADESTOWN
AINT TOO PROUD
THE PROM
with maybe Be More Chill taking the Aint Too Proud spot?
The remaining two slots (uncertain, but these appear to be the most likely contenders):
Be More Chill
The Prom
Aint Too Proud
Beetlejuice
My early prediction is that Beetlejuice surprises (the set and cast are amazing - and the creatives are allegedly working on notable improvements to book and score) and that the nomination committee gives a nod to the young community with a Be More Chill nomination.
"Beth Leavel and Brooks Ashmanskas who will be considered eligible for lead acting categories, along with central star Caitlin Kinnunen, for their turns in The Prom."
This can't be good news for The Prom. This may lead to the two of them splitting the vote, and neither getting nominated.
"The Waverly Gallery stars Joan Allen, Michael Cera and David Cromer will be considered in featured categories, with Lucas Hedges, currently making his Broadway debut, eligible in the leading actor category with veteran star Elaine May considered a leading actress."
I had Lucas Hedges as a lock for featured but now I'm not sure he'll get nominated at all considering the competition in the leading category.
I had the pleasure of seeing Choir Boy yesterday, what does everyone think of its Tony chances? I am really hoping Jeremy Pope gets some recognition for his performance.
That is really unfortunate about Lucas Hedges. I know Elaine May was the star of the show but he was the standout to me. I fear his performance will get lost with Cranston and the others also considered as Leads.
I dont think we have to worry about Beth Leavel snagging a nomination. Its not a particularly crowded category, plus its a showy role, and shes beloved in the industry.
As others have said already, the leading play categories are going to very interesting. I think (and hope) that Jeremy Popes acclaimed performance will be enough to get him in, but it depends a lot on the next couple of months. Hes up against so many big stars in iconic roles, but I wonder if there are almost TOO MANY celebrities for their own good. At a certain point, I cant help but wonder if the big Tony-bait star performances will be hung to cancel each other out. We may very well see Pope get in, with heavy-hitters like Tracy Letts, Nathan Lane, John Lithgow, and Adam Driver left out. But that all depends on how their performances are actually received once they begin.
The crazy thing is, I think the performances weve already seen this season are more than enough to fill up the category with well-deserving nominees (Cranston, Daniels, Pope, Consadine, Hawke, Urie). Wouldnt it be great if there could be a Leading actor in a Spring Play as well as a Leading Actor in a Fall/Winter Play?

This really is a strong season for plays. I admit I normally follow the musicals much more closely than the plays, is it usually this crowded? Or is this just such a special season in general for plays?
Also, Pope could get a supporting actor nom for Aint Too Proud, could be a way for them to honor his work this season. Of course with all the performances mentioned, I think we just have to see how they are all received. Should be a very interesting awards season! Im thankful because after last season, this is very refreshing.
No, its not usually this stacked. Last year was a great season for play revivals in particular, but less so for new plays. This season is crazy though.
Im hesitant to tell people that though because I think there are always great plays, and always great performances in plays. I hope those of you who usually only follow musicals use this season as a jumping off point to start following plays more. Just because this year is more extraordinary than most doesnt mean you should go back to only seeing musicals after this season is over.
In fact, I would actually argue that the overall caliber of plays is only slightly higher, if not the same as most years. Its really the QUANTITY of high caliber plays thats really out of the ordinary.

Yep, that's me! Never would have seen The Waverly Gallery or the Ferryman, or Choir Biy but I am so glad to have gotten into more plays. I plan to see Network and TKAM as well as others this season, and honestly I'm enjoying them much more than musicals of late. It's exciting I've almost not fully paid attention to plays, so I'm discovering an entire other side of theatre, so exciting! Not that I haven't seen plays before, but musicals were more mainstream, and I haven't been able to get to NY as much as I have this past year, and the plays are now on the top of my list to see when I'm in NY. I hope others can follow my trend as well!
