OR someone who is just very wrong for the part.
Laura Benanti [The Weding Singer] is the first one that pops right into my head.

I thought John Stamos was excellent in "Cabaret" and "How To Succeed".
James Carpinello was very good in "Stupid Kids" but not so good as the lead in "Saturday Night Fever".
Katie Clarke in Piazza. And yes, Clara is SOOOO a lead.

Wow, I couldn't disagree more about Stephanie J Block. I saw her three times as Elphaba, and every single time she was fantastic. She seemed to be experiencing everything for the first time each night, in no way "walking through" it at all.
Yeah! Stephanie was awesome in the part. Way better than Idina and Eden, bleh! Normally I would say that they were both weak leads, but Idina's undeserved Tony argues with me and everyone here seems to love Eden (which is beyond me!). She was great as Brooklyn, not as Elphaba.
Where do I begin? I'll echo Jimmy and say, Carpinello in SNF almost single handedly ruined that show. More recently, Lauren Kennedy in Spamalot.
That's why "uncageg" said the night he/she saw it.
I wasn't a fan of Joey Fatone in Little Shop, his singing was fine, but his acting was really lacking.
Katie Clarke, the worst performance i've ever seen on a Bway stage, definitly. I thought Lauren Kennedy was great in Spamalot, still i thought it was a terrible show.

Laura Benanti in TWS. I loved her in Into the Woods but she was charmless as Julia. I saw her in the pre-Broadway tryout. It was one of those cases where she was so obviously underwhelming in the role and Amy and Felicia so eclipsed her, I felt it was a mere formality that she would be replaced before NY. I guess not.
Stephanie J. Block, I found her to be extremely over-the-top and ridiculous to watch as Elphaba
and I agree about Laura Benanti... she was definitely the weak link in The Wedding Singer
Katie Clarke is good! cough cough cVICTOouRIAgCLARKh.
"Weak leads" is so subjective and open to interpretation. Actors have "off nights" here and there and some folks are unfortunate to witness that. A bad night does not however make someone a weak lead. This is just another mean-spirited thread that spews negative energy. The only person who could really comment on a weak lead is a show director or a fellow actor and again, that would be subjective as well. You can see the futility of this thread in the verbal tennis match of "I hated Stephanie Block" followed by " I love Stephanie Block." Continue to spew bile if you must.

I liked Katie Clarke better than Kelli O'Hara in Piazza.
Oh, no! Hot acid!
Katie Clarke is no O'Hara, but she'sd hardly bad.
Lauren Kennedy in SPAMALOT is just dreadful.

I agree that I was slightly "underwhelmed" by Lauren Kennedy in Spamalot. I probably would have liked her more had I not been so amazed by the vocals of her predecesor.
I thought Kelli O'Hara was vocally weak in the role of Babe, in THE PAJAMA GAME.
I hope you're happy now.
