As long as they have the young spirit they need to play Mark and Roger.
Maybe it's the "creaky knees" joke that's got everyone debating. :P

Break a leg tonight! (Not literally) And, most of all, have fun. (Literally)
I hope everyone who gets to go anytime within these next 6 weeks has a great time! I'm still bummed I can't come see them, but I'm hoping for some good stories. =)

Posted: 7/30/07 at 7:52pmYeah, I hope everyone going tonight has a fabulous time. Naturally the big question is: will Adam remember his lines?

yes, it's going to be harvey firestein, and carol channing doing rent now.
Well, if Carol plays Roger to Harvey's Mimi, it would at least be innovative. It's time for Anthony and Adam to find some new work more appropriate to their current ages!

Okay. Here's the thing- Tim Howar, the previous Roger, is a year older than Adam Pascal and two years older than Anthony Rapp. Has anyone ever heard any question as to whether he could properly play the role? I certainly haven't (though there are some as to his tendency to over-act).
From reading interviews with them, we can pretty much say that Adam and Anthony are not doing RENT again because they want work. They both felt an emotional attachment to the show and wanted to come back for a little while just because they both love it. It's not really a serious thing- they just want to return to the show for a little while and then, in six weeks, they'll be gone again.
So I don't really see why people are being so cynical...

Are you a Bush supporter/worker Miss Tink? They don't like to hear negative or dissenting opinions either.
It's not that we didn't want to hear dissenting opinions or reasonable criticism, it's that you're being mindlessly contentious just for the sake of argument. You immediately posted your opinion, no one really responded, so you reiterated it for no reason. There's no reason to be redundant, besides wanting to start an argument. The opinion that they're too old, whether we agree or not, is valid. Going out of your way to argue it, especially on a thread that appears to be skewing celebratory, is not valid. It's petty.
In brighter news, I got a cell phone call from a friend during intermission. The word amazing was used copiously.
I can't wait til next week.

I can't wait to see it! If the word amazing was used a lot-then that adds to my excitement.
I really feel that arguing about their return is unnecessary. What's done is done, and they're back already. There's no changing it.

Of course, people with pictures of Adam in their avatar's are going to say it's amazing no matter what and that's fine as long as you are honest. I saw them live back when they, and "Rent", were new and then I saw them in the film. By the time the film rolled around, they were too old and that was a few years ago.
As far as no one mentioning other "Rent" actors as being too old for Roger or Mark, no one outside of the Rent Heads has ever heard of Tim Howar much less knows how old he is. That's not the case with Anthony and Adam.

"no one outside of the Rent Heads has ever heard of Tim Howar much less knows how old he is."
No offense, but no one outside of Rentheads really have heard of Anthony and Adam.
And also, Craww's friend said they were amazing, not Craww.

I didn't say it was amazing, I said a friend of mine said it was amazing. She doesn't have an avatar right now because of the current BWW avatar issue, so I don't think you can pass that judgment on her credibility.
Also, no one outside the hardcore Rent fans really care how old Adam and Anthony are or that they're returning. In fact, the general consensus from the unwashed masses (cough, ONTD) is that it was silly to call them old at 36.

Posted: 7/30/07 at 11:10pmI didn't expect this...but this was one of the best theatrical experiences of my entire life. It was absoutely brilliant. At the beginning when Adam and Anthony walked out, there was a 1-2 minute standing ovation with cheering and screaming. It was so thrilling. And to top it off, their performances were top notch. Perfect voices. Excellent acting. It was like they never left. Oh, and Merle is the best Joanne I have ever seen and Tamyra is the best Mimi I have ever seen. If you have a chance to see this cast, you absoutely must. I think I got chills at least a dozen times and I was crying throughout the show. A must see for this summer.

Posted: 7/30/07 at 11:11pmActually a few posters that have Adam avatars are the most critical of him. I can see where the stereotype would happen, but that is not always the case.

True. No one I know has. Not until I told them, anyway.
There's no use bashing them for their ages, especially when the characters themselves don't have a specific age and the actors don't look old. And they're already playing the roles.
I may be biased, but I'm sure others who aren't would agree.

I love that I'm being stereotyped as a mindless fangirl when the avatar in question was basically mocking him, too.
Thanks for the mini-review, WithoutATrace. :)

During the 1991-92 Chicago Lyric Opera Season I saw Mirella Freni play Mimi in La Bohème. Her performance was brilliant! No one complained.

Okay- point conceded that no one but the RENTheads know who Tim Howar is. Bad example.
Okay, so Adam and Anthony are mid-thirties. Where in the RENT script does it say that Roger and Mark are 25? They do not have defined ages. For all we know, the pair are intended to be eighty-year-olds who enjoy a wild social life!
EDIT: Aw, I wish I were there tonight! Not until the 21st, though :-P
#73re: Welcome Home Rapp & Pascal
Posted: 7/30/07 at 11:21pmThe audience was absolutely INSANE...and I loved every second of it. Massive applause for the beginnings of some songs, the end of every song, the end of every scene...and as I mentioned extended standing ovation, appluase and cheers on their initial entrance. I hope that happens every night for the next six weeks...they deserve it.
