Completely horrifying...and yet, adorable all at the same time. I'm such a sucker for that man.
I made a funny little icon out of that and a pic of him in Hedwig. Quite humorous.
No, because it moves. But I'll pm you the link to it in my LJ, if you want.
Ooops, never mind. It's too big to fit in there. If you pm me your email, I'll send it to you.
Thanks, Lael! If you end up getting a copy of Paradisco let me know how it is.
I will. He's supposed to be this fascinating, sexy American. That's pretty much the description on the cover.
Um, he IS a fascinating, sexy American. Didn't they get that memo? Must not have been too much of a stretch for our boy.
Here's a great review/synopsis I found of it:
""Paradisco" is a welcome tonic to the "sex = death" neo-prudery that passes for gay sexuality today.
Francois (the handsome veteran French theater and film actor Jerome Pradon) has picked up a young stud, Nicolas (cute as a button newcomer Nicolas Larzul). The next morning, Francois' effeminate American friend (the almost unrecognizable Anthony Rapp ["Adventures in Babysitting," "Dazed and Confused," "Road Trip," "Cruise Control," "A Beautiful Mind"]) shows up and dishes over the delectable stud. "Skilled, long-lasting and eminently flexible" is the conclusion Francois draws.
But the stud is awake, and has overheard. Although not upset by the discussion of his sexual skills, Nicolas is dismissive of Francois' friend. He also notices that Francois is moving; Francois admits that it is time to move on. Although he's had some great disco parties in the house, it is time to let the past go. Nicolas chides Francois gently for his affection for disco music. But Francois tells Nicolas that the era of disco was special. Nicolas says that Francois is "old," but still looks wonderful despite his age. Francois tells Nicolas that back in the late 1970s, he looked even better... and back in time the two go, to New Year's Eve, 1979.
Francois' home is full of party-goers, dancing to disco music. But one by one, Francois points out all the friends who have died. It's sobering. Nicolas is appalled, and looks as if he is about to tell Francois that they should have known better. But Francois points out the people who have survived, too -- including the now-much-younger, handsome, sexy American who Nicolas had been so dismissive of a short time ago. As the dancers dance, they sing a song celebrating disco. It's a revolution, a way of expressing yourself, a way of being free, a way of finding yourself. New families are created on the dance floor, new ways of being and seeing and loving. Nicolas becomes enthralled.
Francois takes Nicolas to the bedroom, where they listen as Francois' best friend has sex behind the closed door. The song continues, with the dancers blissfully unaware of the epidemic of death and hatred that will cut most of them down in the next few years.
Finally, Nicolas asks to see this best friend. Francois gestures to the landing -- where we see that the best friend looks just like Nicolas. And then the dream ends. The startling similarity between the now-dead best friend and Nicolas has jerked Francois and Nicolas back to reality. His judgmentalism about sex, age, disco and free love washed away by the trip through time, Nicolas tells Francois that he very much wants to see him again. As Francois looks over his collection of disco memorabilia and memories, the film ends.
In some ways, "Paradisco" is probably one of the first post-AIDS films. It takes the "Austin Powers" approach to the era of free love: It was all about choices, baby. If we'd known what was coming, we'd have been more responsible; after all, it was all about choices.
That defense of the era of free love is not very convincing, for judgmental moralist would simply respond, "But I told you so." But in its way, "Paradisco" at least fumbles for a defense; many others have simply not tried, or actively condemned the era of free-love as being irresponsible, destructive and all about treating people as flesh-holes for sex rather than as individuals.
In regard to this final critique, "Paradisco" vociferously denies that the free-love era was in any way dehumanizing. To the contrary, it enabled people to find love, companionship and a sense of belonging without the constant cruising, tricking and hooking up that characterize the new millennium -- or which characterize the way Francois and Nicolas met. Indeed, the American's comments about Nicolas are more humiliating and regressive than anything which would ever have been uttered on the disco floor.
And that is perhaps the really terrific thing about "Paradisco": The film has so much to offer audiences, but it does so through song, performance, characterization, behavior and setting than it does through preachy dialogue. The film's effectiveness comes through only after you've thought and felt about it for a while, not because a character says so.
To me, that's the sign of good film-making."
Yeah. I saw this one. Made me want to watch the movie even more. Which makes me even MORE bummed that I can't find it anywhere here in Chicago.
you can't find it anywhere in the U.S.A. But the site fnac.com has it. It's in French, though...
Oh french isn't at all a deterrant for me. My French isn't too bad. And if there are subtitles it's a non-issue. I'll have to check out the website.
Oh my God, that picture makes me laugh! :-P That's still a really awsome pic. If anyone could pull that off, Anthony could. I am confident in this after seeing Hedwig pics. And I wonder how his french is. I assume he has to speak and/or sing in French so I wonder how that sounds. I think it'd be really interesting to hear him sing in a foreign language. But no wonder I couldn't find anything on this movie, I tried looking for it everywhere after reading about it on IMDb but to no avail.
And on another note, that part in Road Trip, the "Unleash the fury Mitch!!" part, is absolutely hilarious. Tom Green is a great comedic actor. And seeing a giant boa constrictor go flying at Anthony's neck was quite an eyeful, let me just say. :-P Speaking of boa constrictors, I was at venice beach today and some kid was walking around with a huge Boa Constrictor named Erin around his neck and I got to hold it. :-P So there I was sitting on a bench in Venice with this giant snack around my neck as it slithered around my waist. I've got a pic on my digital camera and it looks awsome.
OK that was my threadjack for the day....thank you and goodnight! *Bows*
I always have to mention how Jerome Pradon stole Judas from my boy Tony... sorry, still bitter...

<3
I swear during previews and stuff I'll just keep saying "start the damn movie already" and other profanities. Or not. I'll cry but later on in the film.
Yeah I just saw the new trailer online (I fell asleep at arond 5:00 and slept right through Access Hollywood....curse my need for sleep....) and yes it was absolutely amazing. I really liked the dialogue that was overlapping some of the scenes. The whole thing is making me so excited for November. I actually want school to start for godsake, and that is saying something...let me just tell you.... :-P
*clicks tongue at fellow Anthony lovers*
two weeks and no posts? I thought this was the thread that never dies!
Let's show some Anthony love, dearlings!!! *passes out the 'Labels are for cans, not people. Fearlessly be yourself' buttons she made because she has no life*
I'll start. First off, I depise not living in New York, I would be at all of our boy's shows. Cheering, clapping, likely passing out because the hotness level in the room would be too much. (Anthony and Amy Spanger...those casting people are trying to kill me I swear) I saw the pictures and may I just say:
Anthony, if you're still lurking around here...you look delectable in red. And the green...yeah, I may have forgotten that I was talking to people and just went off into 'Happy Beth Land' which transformed to 'Happy Beth Gawks at the Sexy Man Land'. I printed the picture and put it on my theatre class notebook, proudly pointing out the new addition to all my classmates...who now think I'm completely out of my (questionably) sane mind. Long ramble made short- Anthony+green shirt=Bethy's mind blankage.
I'm sorry I can't get up to New York and cheer you on, but if you listen close you can hear the soft cheers and applause coming from Florida.
*cheers and applauds*
See? =8->
As for my fellow fangirls, let's spread the Anthony love!
Mucho love and happiness,

*grabs button from Incedniary and pins it proudly to shirt*
Indeed, Anthony Rapp and Amy Spangler in one production......bring on the spaz/heart attacks folks. While almost a full country separates me from New York and many fangirl opportunities, I will spread the Anthony love in my own way by saying that I am thrilled with the samples from the RENT soundtrack that are on the website. Amazingly thrilled. Everyone sounds beautiful beyond all reason. Rent sounds incredible and so fast paced and may I just say that the emotion in Anthony's voice during Halloween was deeply chilling and moving (in a good way). So yes, that was the day that Mika probably burst a blood vessel from the excitement of it all.
And finally, yes I am shamed for letting this thread pass into the dark recesses of BWW but it shall not happen again! This is indeed the thread that will never die!! *takes deep breath* Yeah, I'm calm and sane, I promise. *twitch twitch*
PS. That quote, the "labels are for cans, not people" one. My friend saw that and loved it so much she made this awsome kind of abstract drawing of a cambell's soup can and wrote the quote on the paper with it and its currently taped to her fridge as a daily mantra. :-P If boredom ever brings me to this point, I shall take said soup can pic and make shirts out of it with that quote on the back. And the sad thing is that me actually doing that in the near future really wouldn't surpise me that much. Good lord.....
Did anyone just see 'Making Dazed' on AMC? A bit from Anthony's audition tape, fun times.
They actually showed a lot of Anthony. I mean, they showed a lot of Ben and Matthew, but there was plenty of Anthony sprinkled thorugh.
Anyway, it's on again at 3, you should all watch it.
Yeah dream spreading the anthony love as well as CSI. Lol.
Anthony love and CSI love!! That makes me happy! Just throw some love in for the triple threat trio (Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Danny Elfman....heheh in a kind of mood after all this excitment over the Corpse Bride) and I'm all set. Yay! Speaking of CSI, what kind of obsessive fan would I be if I didn't remind everyone that the season premiere is this Thursday? A very ashamed one, that's what. I must say, if Anthony ever guest starred on an episode of CSI I could be struck by lightning afterward and still be smiling. Hey he did Law and Order, and was the serial killer in Far From Home right? It could happen....*is met with bewildered silence*.....right?.....RIGHT?! Ok so maybe I'm just way too tired and way too big of an Anthony/CSI fan. I'll stop before you all really start to think I'm crazy (if you don't already...
) Goodnight all! *crawls back into bed*
