I am shocked by the very poor level of customer service in Broadway theatres, but what I witness the other day was beyond awful customer service.
I was seeing Ghost on Tuesday at the Lunt, I was hungry so stopped in Mcdonalds for a couple of burgers and fries, as I said I was very hungry and time was tight, so I got my items and stuck these in my rucksack, anyway I proceeded to the theater and when the lights went down, opened my rucksack and begun to eat my food, then I had four people come over to tell me I wasn't allowed to bring my own food in and could only eat concessions bought at the theater and must hand over my food, so it could be thrown away, naturally I refused as I was very hungry, they then said if I refused again they would throw me out and that is exactly what I did refused.
Then what happened next made my jaw nearly hit the floor, the show was stopped and a load of people in uniforms turned up to take me out to the sidewalk, even when I said I would throw my food away, they refused to let me back in and when I asked for another ticket or a refund, they refused saying I breached their terms and conditions.
I have never met such poor customer service, which was driven by Orwellian authoritarianism, I was shocked to say the least.

Yeah, Broadway's tough. I never thought I'd see the day when attending a Broadway would no longer be like watching TV at home.
From what people are saying in another thread, you might have better luck chomping down a Big Mac over at Streetcar.

Good for them at the Lunt. No offense, but what were you thinking of bringing McDonald's into a theater? That makes any place reak like it and I am not at all shocked that they did that. Also, the fact that you refused was stupid on your part. In no Broadway theater are you supposed to bring outside food or drink in. Some people do and some theaters aren't too strict, but when a worker tells you to give it because it isn't allowed, you should do it.
And I don't know why your mouth would drop because they had to get security to remove you since they told you twice to get rid of the food and both times you refused. Sounds like an angry customer not happy about not getting it there way.

Posted: 4/4/12 at 8:09pmwdw -- I don't think this is a real post -- I'm fairly certain this is mocking another thread -- I have no idea which one, however.

Posted: 4/4/12 at 8:10pm^ I'm not sure. And the thread they are refercing is the Streetcar preview thread. Apparently there were people eating everywhere throughout the theater and a lot of bad etiquitte.

Posted: 4/4/12 at 8:47pmBreaking news - bway theaters are rife with critters, vermin, roaches, mice.....yes, by all means bring your grease/sugarfest into your lap. The cleaning ladies/gents LOVE picking up skeezy chicken bones, etc....

Posted: 4/4/12 at 9:16pmYeah! Ushers should be handing out bibs and napkins, not Playbills!

Posted: 4/4/12 at 9:27pmEven if this thread is a joke, theaters in NYC lost the moral high ground to complain about people eating in the theater, which I am actually against, when they themselves began selling snacks, popcorn, beer, wine, pop, water and whatever else the guys who look like the concession guys from the Knicks, Yankees and Giants games can fit into the things they carry around- I'm sorry- I think it's tacky- but again- when you start selling it in the theater I don't care if it's McDonald's or what- you kind of loose you righteousness to say "we don't allow eating in the theater" when you have people walking around selling stuff anyways...

SNAFU, your photo always reminds me of Mary Martin and Carol Channing in LEGENDS.
Shows with sagging ticket sales should install an all-you-can-eat buffet, and perhaps have a daily lottery where one lucky audience member gets to share in any on-stage meals with the actors. That could really beef up the box office!

Posted: 4/4/12 at 9:53pmI think the fact the OP says they stopped the show because of his McDonalds proves this is a joke.

Posted: 4/4/12 at 10:05pmIt's truly a sad day when a theatergoer can't eat his McD's burger in peace during a show. Why it's absolutely un-American!

Posted: 4/4/12 at 10:08pmI'd rather sit next to someone eating a noiseless cheeseburger than the douchebags with their cups full of ice they shake for two hours.
#21Well I Am Shocked By The Poor Level Of Customer Service!!!
Posted: 4/4/12 at 10:30pmI'd rather people could just sit and watch a show. Is it so hard?
#22Well I Am Shocked By The Poor Level Of Customer Service!!!
Posted: 4/4/12 at 10:32pmAnd please, if you actually are going to eat - either at the theater or at the movies...CHEW WITH YOUR MOUTH CLOSED! Nothing more disgusting than hearing you chew with details.

Posted: 4/4/12 at 10:39pmHave any of you ever tried to not eat for two whole hours? It's HARD!

The only time I can go without eating for two hours is when I'm at home watching television alone.
